How much HiiT

Hi, I am currently doing two TT’s a week (one is the standard 10 Weds eve and the other is a 7 Sat morning) is this enough Hiit training and should I be concentrating on Zone 2 and recovery for the rest of the week ( I also do two Systm strength sessions a week) I am coming to the end of the TT plan (2nd time around) and will be on hols for a week in a couple of weeks time where there will be no bike riding. When I get back I need to formulate a proper plan going forward whilst still riding my clubs TT season.

How far/long are your TT efforts? And are you hitting both of them flat out? Because if you’re going at 100%, I would definitely think coaches would say that’s all the HIIT you should be getting in a week. So yeah, round out the week with recovery and Z2/3 would be my thought.

Wow, two a week - you truly are mad, @ozmadman.

Yes two a week. Wednesday evening alternates between a 10 one week and a 12 the other and every Saturday morning is a club 7. Also. Yes flat out efforts. The last 3, according to intervals.icu has increased my FTP 213 to 226 which currently puts me at 3.69 watts per kg at 69 years old. Can’t get anymore flat out than that!

Only question I’d add is the 10/12…are those km or miles? How long do they take you to complete? Full gas is full gas, but if you’re banging them out in < 30 minutes, you probably COULD work in a long-ish Z3 ride on weekends or something? If you notice, most(?) of the comparable high-effort HIIT vids in SUFF lean towards 40min to an hour, so if your x2 TT’s are running in that range combined, that’s a one-effort HIIT equivalent.

But most importantly is listening to your body. If you’re emptying the tank on the TT’s and feel like you really need a rest/recovery day after, you’re probably in a really good track right now.

10 miles around 27 mins,

12 miles just under 33 mins and 7 miles around 19 : 30. So I suppose one long and one short TT = around 54 mins. Hadn’t thought of it like that
