KICKR Bike V2 - shifters...What's the real issue?

I’m on my…maybe 3rd bike. Starting with a V1 and now using a V2. I maybe have 1500km usage on the current on.

Same as the other ones, the shifters are starting to go. This means the you are on a virtual ride and both just stop working. Although I have had in the past only one stop working. I have stopped using the USB port to charge my tablet. I leave the bike unplugged between rides. I put drip loops in the shifter cables. I wipe down the bike well after rides especially around shifters and display. But no matter this bike is doing the same thing.

Emailing Wahoo support and paying a deposit and getting a new bike…well it works and support is great, but it’s terrible for the environment and wastes a lot of my time.

If it was just the shifters (which are a very simple PCB’s with I2C signalling to the main board on the frame), then I assume Wahoo would just be sending new handlebars out.
I’m guessing it is water ingress (sweat) into the mainboard area causing this. Hermetically sealing this would have been the answer and pretty logical based on the placement of it.

Anyway I digress. Can anyone share what the real issue is? Otherwise I will try and get to the main board and at least clean it up and remove any salt and other contaminants. It’s possible it’s just the shifters themselves, but I doubt it.

What’s the real issue?

Odd, I’ve had mine for ages with no issues. Are you running a very strong fan and have a sweat strap over the bike? Towel on the bars? Is it wildly humid where you are?

Are you maybe just pushing on the shifters too hard? Im pretty delicate on mine. They’re like etap or di2, not mechanical. I’ve had a friend jump onto my v2, and they mashed the shifter like it was 105 from 2011, and I’m pretty lucky they didn’t break the whole shifter off.

I do run a strong fan. I tried a sweat strap for a while, but don’t currently.

I took an hour ride yesterday and they worked perfectly, so I don’t think it’s mechanical at all.

It certainly could be moisture related. And it does get somewhat humid.

Nice to hear from someone with no issues!

Wow interesting, sounds moisturise related
I have no suggestions. Hopefully they keep behaving!
