Got my response from Wahoo support. Basically did my troubleshooting again just to be sure, with a few extra reboots added in. Confirmed it’s faulty. Now just a matter of how long is takes for my replacement to arrive. Hoping I get it before TOS.
If not, I’ll have to go back to my old dumb trainer that I stashed away in the garage for moments like this! My rear tire is getting lonely, anyway.
yep, figured that was the case too. Cheers to Wahoo and here’s hoping you get the new one before the tour as well. Also, don’t forget, after you open it, connect everything up and pair to make sure you’ve got the latest firmware do your spindown to calibrate then…FF
Wahoo support has always been incredible. The only way they could be any better would be if they were open on weekends. Or if they were able to read my mind. lol. But close enough! I can’t enough good things about Wahoo support.
I was reading this and thinking “well, of course”, until I re-read the part about doing FF. lol. Oh man. I’m past due on a new FF, anyway, so… I should be well rested!
I know you’re waiting on a replacement and that is probably the only solution now, but have you tried forcing a new FW update just to get that re-written and make sure there’s nothing bad there?
Yes, that was the last thing I did with Wahoo support before they decided to replace it. They wanted me to make sure that my last FW update wasn’t only partial because they said that could cause it to mimic a hardware failure, even tho I had updated it in Nov and I’ve been riding on it just fine since then. So, I downgraded to v1.1.1, restarted, rebooted, and then upgraded it back to v1.1.3 which is the latest FW just to be sure.
Got my new replacement Kickr Core, yesterday. Put it together today. And I’m excited that this time they replaced it with a new one instead of a refurbished one! I was not expecting that so I’m thrilled!
Now I can get back to my regularly scheduled suffering.
Spin down done. And just finished Half Monty. Nice to see my MAP and FTP are improving again, even with 2 weeks off. 308/243. Not back to 318/259 from Oct, but better than 293/232 in January. And always nice to have new numbers right before the TOS.
Touché. Sort of. I assume that sustained efforts are your weakness right? Defender has 4 x 10 mins over then just slightly under intervals that have no breaks. It’s a mind monster for me to do sustained effort intervals that are over 6-8 mins and 10 feels like 5ever to me.
Interesting. My weakness has always been sustained. I think I had a VO2 weakness once a few years ago. Always been a sprinter. My rider type has never changed. It’s so consistent and HM in my case is soooo accurate (within a small handful of watts) that I am disinclined to ever do FF again.
My NM, MAP, and FTP are usually around the same, and my rider type is usually Sprinter, but when I’m in better shape has been Pursuiter. It’s my AC that varies widely. Been over 450 and also under 400. So that seems to be what changes my weakness and rider type.
