Local Hero, The Hunted... gone?

I just cancelled my subscription renewal, and cited the loss of these videos as the reason, along with the pausing, stuttering high speed video playback problem with the workout player.

I was on annual, so it doesn’t actually run out until March 2025 and gives Wahoo time to sort it.

In all my years as a member of The Sufferfest and now Wahoo SYSTM, I have never been able to complete Local Hero at 100% target.

It’s ambitiously targeted for sure and because it’s long it require an extra element not in 4DP: endurance, and it yet another aspect, high cadence tolerance and as I recall even ability to recover under high cadence.

I can’t say that I’ve necessarily finished at perfectly honest levels (and not without some screaming and maybe even itsy bitsy tears). For me it’s a trial by fire of improvement, as something that’s attainable from tested levels with some training blocks. Of course if you’re still dying in the second MAP interval (don’t quit on the 1st one), you just dial back a bit at that point. It should be possible to get to there.

This is why I love it though. You can’t hide. It will tell you if you are where you think you are, or you will fail, and it’s way more fun than FTP test.

I haven’t had much stuttering problems and never saw “high speed” video on windows 10. Android has worked for me as well the couple of times I used it. Some stuttering of course happens if I forgot some high CUP background task, or have poor networking and didn’t download in advance. This is all probably for another thread, but anyway, I’m not generally unhappy with the app, just these content isses.

Not really. I rarely take myself seriously. Other than having completed some ridiculous challenge, I’m no different than any other user. The decision to remove the videos was Wahoo’s, not the knights.

I understand you’re upset and why. I don’t like that they were removed either. But I don’t think directing anger at other users is warranted. The best we were able to do was make them available to at least some users rather than complete removal. And If knights ever really had any clout, it’s long gone with the departure of Sir David, Sir Francois, Sir Neal, and others.

If it were up to me all these videos would still be around for everyone - along with many other changes that we’ve long been advocating for and still have’t happened. I also understand with why Wahoo removed them. That doesn’t mean I fully agree. But I had no say in the matter. And at this point I’m just glad that The Sufferfest videos are still around and available at all.

I saw your post. I’m a Kaaaaaniggit, and I do NOT take myself too seriously. In fact, one of the things that drew me to The Sufferfest was that it is all so very much tongue in cheek (except for the training and the quality of the workouts, those are seriously impressive and sometimes more :face_vomiting: in mouth than  in cheek).

I’m not an admin here, fwiw, and I wouldn’t have deleted your post but to be fair, it didn’t really contribute to the discussion either so I dunno.

Hi Glen. I deleted it. As a sufferlandrian piss boy I felt it not worthy of discussion.

hehe, there are no piss boys in Sufferlandria

Also, how do you delete a post? Whenever I’ve tried to delete a post, it shows up as “(post deleted)” but it’s still visible. I thought only admins have those magical powers :man_shrugging:

I couldn’t delete it, I just edited it to say “Deleted” :slightly_smiling_face:. I honestly can’t believe that 3 people replied to my post since I whacked it like 60 seconds after I posted it .

No I’m a piss boy having spent approximately $3500 on wahoo hardware ( never again ) and subscribing to the Suff for 6, 7 years but being denied access to the full library. I’m amazed how a business can kill a relationship with a fervent user.

Don’t be surprised by the quick replies from users like us tho. I’m here all day most days when I’m not riding and even then, I usually catch up when I’m back.

I’ve probably spent the same on wahoo products but my experience with CS has been nothing short of astounding. Even for off warranty stuff.

As for SUF, I’ve been with them since download days, pre-app. When The Company acquired SUF I was full of hope and anticipation and to be fair LOTS of great stuff came about as a result of that. Even if wahoo never has demonstrated a deep understanding of the special community Sir David built. So, as you know, … things rapidly took a downward spiral from losing our dear founder and the sport science team to renaming the The Tour. Since Sir Francois left I’ve pretty much abandoned all hope of any new SUF content (despite my fervent and naive wish to be wrong). And so, here I am and here I’ll stay unless they trash the app (a la RGT)

Also, fwiw, I 100% agree that ALL content available to subscribers should be available to ALL subscribers. I neither understood nor accept that Knigjts can access content otherwise off-limits. The only exception to that would be for beta testers, a group to which I happily belong.

My take is that if the video quality is so poor, pull it. I’ve never been a fan of the Hunted, especially when the truth about a certain LA became known. I would have pulled the video the day that he was exposed. Bad PR and such.
As to Local Hero, its had its day. Great ride and such but there are better videos now. Again, into the bin it goes.
The only video I would have kept was the original Fight Club and that would be available to all with the caveat about the poor video quality. The newer version is great but there’s a subtle difference between old and new.
As I stated it was the combined voice of the nobility that kept all of these videos out of the bin.

I’m standing in amazement with you. Sheer amazement.
I’m just an occasional lurker here now. I let my subscription expire early May, decided the annual price doesn’t save enough to justify keeping it in the best weather season, and I’m frankly so disappointed in the direction of things.
I do NOT understand NOR AGREE that videos should be removed. It’s NOT like there are so many to choose from that one may never do them all anyway. So if the cost to produce has already been eaten, where in the world is the gain dropping them?
A disclaimer that video quality is less than the best (even a clear statement of what that quality is would help), but at least users can CHOOSE!

Nor do I understand at all that a video has “had its day.” @jmckenzieKOS
What exactly does that mean?
If new users are being attracted, how can something they haven’t SEEN yet have already had its day? Isn’t it advantageous to have MUCH CONTENT??

I’ve dabbled with ROUVY, free trial, just did a couple rides one day, one free ride type, and one workout.
Video quality was VERY good, no hiccups at all streaming, didn’t bother to download the videos.
But at least what I did, there was NO sound, NO real engagement, NOTHING CLOSE to what every SYSTM workout I ever did had to involve the user.
I really missed that.
And I’m one who LOVES actual video, On Location stuff, but any and all On Loc w/Mike Cotty were SO much better than the ROUVY stuff was, at least TO ME.
It doesn’t help the cause that those vids on Rouvy have avatars for riders, and at least to me, the avatars on ANY app just suck. I hate them. HATE THEM.
Gimme real riders, real scenery, real stuff.

My perfect app would have SYSTM workouts, including all the On Location stuff, AND would also include free ride scenery videos, with or without showing the rider(s.) Just a chest or handlebar mounted view would suffice.
But there does need to be something to engage you with the place you are riding, and that’s what On Loc does very well, in my opinion. Riding with a buddy or a coach, listening to them as they either talk you through or talk themselves through what’s happening on the road. That engages me and keeps me involved and the ride/workout passes and I’ve had a great time.

DON’T throw away videos! ADD TO THEM! Until you have a lot more than what SYSTM has, you are being outclassed by sheer numbers with other apps.
You HAVE the superb content! Get to work on some of the needed improvements to attract/keep customers. Don’t survive, THRIVE!

… leaving now…

When a workout is really good (my kind of good at least), I can’t focus or watch the videos much. I am just trying to get through the interval. That’s why I love Sufferfest. It’s in the name.
None of it should go in the bin. If it’s not your cup of tea, don’t ride it, but your preferences are not everyone’s. Although on the Hunted…I always kind of laughed because they just seemed so miserable. But that’s all good. I’ll suffer right along with you.
