Modifying training plans mid plan?

Likely has been covered before…I have created a 12 week general cycling plan. All great but now that spring is here I know I will do many rides outside and many will be longer than the durations of the workouts in the 12 week plan. Most of the workouts are in the 45 minute to 1.5 hour category. But a typical outside ride I do with friends can be 3 hour+ So I will have to ignore some SYSTM workouts and do my own outside rides. I guess the plan remains static?

Has anyone dealt with this and if so how does on adjust that plan. Or you just can’t?

@Detlef Yes - the plans are static so you need to track your training balance. Generally 2 interval sessions a week and then your longer rides at endurance pace on the weekends. I think at some point they will use DTL to create dynamic plans or at least recommend the next workout with more precision.

My general formula is cadence and sprint stuff every 10 days or so, some sub-threshold and threshold efforts (eg 8 x 4s) and then my longer rides rides or races on the weekends. If I dip too far into the red I back off and grab some extra recovery.

Thanks! I guess I need to read more about DTL and how that works. Also need to understand better all those numbers coming out of my Full Monty.

Sir Jon has the detailed answer, but -

The TL;DR answer is that it’s kind of like supercharged TSS that gives credit to the 4 different power profiles you set during Full Frontal / Half Monty.

If you’re already used to using TSS to influence your training and recovery, you can use DTL very similarly. I’ve been pretty surprised at how it reflects how training is impacting me better than TSS, was very skeptical when they rolled it out.
