New Wahoo Forum Guidelines*

Okay….. I guess we can just search for an old thread with a vaguely appropriate title and reopen its discussion. If we see all those permanently closed all of the sudden, I guess we’ll be sure the goal is to quash open discussions and community.

Hey @WahooMikeG

I don’t like this either. Why this forum is amazing and alive is thanks to all the people who are actively participating and opening topics.

I understand that the general idea is to keep Wahoo brand nice and tidy and have control over what people can and can’t do, but it’s quite demoralizing and it’s making people hate the brand. If you want to continue in this general idea, then go ahead. We might open our own forum and you can continue doing you.

Wow. What an amazingly bad move, @WahooMikeG !!

I just got an email within the last day that invited me to “Lock In Your Next Year Of Training At $129” for (SYSTM? no, make that) Wahoo, in order to beat the price increase coming in October. And to think I actually at least considered whether I would be willing to pay for an annual instead of just doing a few of the colder months, since I rarely do indoor rides for almost half the year, and the other half involves probably more than 75% outdoor rides as well.

But THIS “New Wahoo Forum Guidelines*” post you have presented may have fully mummified any interest I have had in Wahoo.

That’s right. Your post is prize-winning in the category “HOW-TO-DESTROY-SUPPORT” from loyal customers in both the APP userbase as well as potential PRODUCT users or buyers.

I have a KICKR BIKE V1 that I still consider the absolute best possible indoor riding setup available among ALL options, save for the KICKR BIKE V2, with its WiFi connection (that should have been already in use on my V1, and an update to allow that should also have been available, but I can live without it.) I cannot comment on the newly released PRO version at this time, but it seems to make some small improvements on the V2, from what I have read.

So just when I was wondering if I might ever be headed back to using the SYSTM App, in SPITE OF all the SUFFOCATING DESUFFING that has been occurring, here I am, on vacation enjoying some of the best road rides anywhere, and I am greeted by this NONSENSICAL MANEUVER by WAHOO when I check in for a brief catch-up on the Forum threads.

Has there been some painful discussion on the Forum that Wahoo might not appreciate? Certainly. Is that the nature of ANY forum for ANY company? CERTAINLY!

This “New” approach is as old hat as there is. And it will NOT benefit Wahoo in the end. It’s yet ANOTHER poorly conceived approach to try to reduce negative feedback, when the SOLUTION TO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK IS TO IMPROVE THE PRODUCT!!!

HOW IS IT that Wahoo doesn’t seem to realize that a Forum works BOTH ways? It brings accountability to the table; it allows for shared feedback TO and FROM the company… IF the company recognizes the value of that channel and has staff INVOLVED and ENGAGED with the user base that comes to the forum for answers, solutions, a place of commentary, and much more.

I do HOPE that what has started off in such a bad direction as this appears to be, will be reversed and discarded promptly enough to limit the already significant damage it has done to a host of faithful users.

And I hope that I catch wind of it in time before my ears are tuned out. I will NOT be entertaining ANY THOUGHTS OF SUBSCRIBING TO “Wahoo” for a riding app this cold season in light of the “New Wahoo Forum Guidelines*” that betray a serious unwillingness by Wahoo to engage with users in a productive fashion.

This latest debacle reminds me of the recent Cracker Barrel Old Country Store fiasco… one I’ve predicted coming for the last few years, and one I totally blame on key leadership who are absolutely out of touch with what made Cracker Barrel our favorite chain restaurant for the last 30+ years. We always could count on consistency and quality food choices. That has been gone for more than 3 years, and we now struggle with whether it’s worth the gamble on them anymore.

Will my KICKR Bike become a relic too? And SYSTM just a memory of GREAT WORKOUTS I used to be able to enjoy? And the FORUM also only a memory? Friends I’ve never met but have often shared and received ideas, encouragement, better understanding, motivation, ….. Just a memory because someone in authority has thin skin??? REALLY??

Do I have to regret switching to an anual suscription, like I just did yesterday? @WahooMikeG
I am annoyed by the fact, that new threads by team members are not possible anymore. And I am annoyed by the redundant and recurring expressions (e.g. “…globally perform better.” and all that marketing speech. This here is a community, we are grown-ups, this isn’t a tradeshow, where you have to attract new customers. I do work in marketing myself and I am aware that nowadays “Tone of voice” guidelines can be very limiting to employees, who have to apply them.
This is a very active forum with dedicated participants, helping each other out with a lot of advice, added with bantering, complaining and all that. But what counts for me, that if somebody has a software, hardware or whatever problem, within hours other forum members come up with advice and helpful ideas. That is complementary to the good customer service you offer. This is value to the brand.

To express it in a different way: for me this forum is similar to what other riders’ avatars and “ride-ons” on Zwift are.

Well this has gone well.

WahooMikeG:

‘In order to foster a positive environment and streamline conversations, to allow us to engage with you all in the best way possible, we are making some changes to the forum structure.’

Please would you let me know the rationale behind the change?

Also, regarding the above, I have only ever seen and experienced a ‘positive environment and streamline conversations’ here so what have you seen that made you decide this change to the forum is needed? For me, the positivity here is what allowed me to feel safe to take part. I am confident in the knowledge that I can ask any questions without fear and have trust that I will receive feedback and help that is overwhelmingly supportive and never negative. I learn so much from other member’s questions who are here to discuss issues that are being experienced in real time. We know what we need to discuss, we are respectful in our discussions.

Our feedback is not something to fear. On occasion, I will feel some negativity about your decisions and may disagree. This is perfectly normal and doesn’t mean you have to handle it by shutting us down. Embrace us and use our feedback to make the company the best one. That seems a much more positive way of progressing.

Wahoo, you just keep on shooting yourself in the foot. This forum change is the latest example. The feedback and support given by members of this community is priceless. Please don’t stifle it with this change.

@Anne I think you have your answer in the silence from those who started this thread and, have you also noticed….

No topics or threads have been posted since this “change” was initiated and….

Apparently they aren’t too excited. I’ll close with this….

But yet they stifle us and shut us down.

I wish I could express myself better in english. Breaking the thermometer doesn’t bring the fever down. This community is helpful to newcomers, and I think even all the negativity that came up after Wahoo’s royal failure regarding copyright issues finally ended up with people faithfully trying to get over it and making things better. I’ve recorded the intro of Elements of Style, and I’ll be riding in the shadows until freedom comes back.

Absolutely LOVE THIS! What a pregnant expression! It speaks volumes. Thank you!

@Eric Indeed, it’s not helpful is it? And, you have reminded me that I actually do want a reply from Wahoo and I really don’t know how to do that @WahooMikeG I think if I have the reason for the change I can either go with it or know how to challenge it, and I’m talking about the real reason, not blah blah blah! The only thing I am asking for is to be able to start a topic if I need to. Simple.

Quick question - how do I start a new topic on the forum now? I have a question aboout how best to slot weight/gym training into a 12 week plan.

It appears you can’t. Although no one from wahoo has engaged in this thread since starting it to confirm.

With new topics no longer allowed, I guess we’re still allowed to reply to an existing thread with a totally irrelevant tangent.

Which neither helps us as the community nor Wahoo, and will likely lead the these replies being deleted.

I get to work with loads of software vendor communities and have never seen this approach last long - either the approach changes back to being open or the community dies. Maybe there’s a a third option that I haven’t experienced yet…?

thank you. I was being a bit naughty asking such a silly question to which I sort of guessed the answer. Pointless forum then. Shame because it was both helpful at times and amusing too. oh well. I base my views of the whole Wahoo vs other provider discussion on a background of watching a cellar wall listening to my own playlist for years. Z doesn’t tick many boxes for me so I’ll be continuing with Wahoo despite my strong dislike of the wahooli-word and the loss of some very good session films (e.g recharger). Worst is the loss of my historical training background due to session name changes. But there we are. Suffer on, suffer long. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :flexed_biceps:

Just re-iterates what I just posted in my comments in the thread about the renew subscription offer. More gobbledegook!!! and just confirms that my decision to leave is justified. Stopping people from posting new threads and only being able to read and reply to whatever Wahoo decide to post is ridiculous. Funny how this has been posted just a couple of days AFER the dangling carrot of a cheaper subscription for a year, in itself isnt clear as to how it really works.

No surprises there then!!!

Well done @WahooMikeG and the team for doing what they did, silencing the entire community for a so-called ‘streamlining’ reason. Allow me to applaud you for it.:clap::clap:

From my experience there is hardly any involvement of any Wahoo Support members here in this forum to begin with and the community over here is fantastic when it comes to helping one another in resolving little niggles whether is has to do with the software or the hardware. I personally resolved my technical issue regarding my Kickr V3 via this forum.

My question to you @WahooMikeG would be, do you even know what a forum is or even what is it for?

Rather than imposing such a draconian ‘guideline’ and downright rude approach by silencing critics in the forum and by not letting us the community members to create topics/polls and what not, why not set up a team of moderators to moderate the forum topics, merge redundant topics, flag inappropriate topics etc.?

There have been enough SUF-ness taken away from us, starting with the Wahoo take over of the Sufferfest, then the stupidly remastered SUF workouts, the imposition of Wahoo-this, Wahoo-that and now this, the forum… I have thought of resubscribing on a monthly basis rather than annually, but with your doing of this, I would not be even considering subscribing at all.

Setting up forum is the the easiest part. Building a healthy, active and respectful community is the hard part. Stakeholders in the company obviously don’t care about that.

I’m at the point where I’m thinking to sell all my Wahoo stuff and get the competitors because this isn’t how I’d like to be treated, not by @WahooMikeG or anyone of the *ooligans.

I know that we’ve been through these cycles before, the company announces something, we suck it up, we believe things will get better, they don’t, in fact they get worse, all hardcore knights are out, all the stars from Sufferfest are out, content is getting worse, I’m looking at this for the last 6 years and I’m done with supporting this.

Which is troubling. It’s almost like….make an announcement, shut it down, walk away and don’t give it another thought. Everything about this is just very odd.

Correct me if I’m wrong but, nobody from Wahoo was “active” in the forums anyway. I mean @Rupert and @mgboehmer were a bit active when they would announce and we would comment on a newly released re-master and when the “Suggestions for remasters” thread was started but other than that, as far as I can tell, nobody from Wahoo was really ever active in the forums anyhow so this stifling and shut down just doesn’t make any sense.
