Such a cute pupper!!!
Don’t worry about updating here if it’s gonna throw u off your game. It’s all I could manage to snap a pic of FB, notifications off, and phone in do not disturb mode. I’m amazed people can carry on conversations online and respond to comments. You’re doing swell!!
Keep it up and I’ll get your chair ready at the knight’s table for when you arrive or at some point anyway. I’ll probably just have a couple donuts and go for a sleep.
I’m churning the butter for your donuts as we speak. I’ll leave it at the foot of Mt Agonia for you.
Keep up the excellent suffering. You can crush this! OR you can be crushed. Either way your suffering will be legendary and GvA will be proud. But he will be prouder if you do the crushing. Keep up the suffering!
Ummmmm, leave it at the top, if it’s not too much trouble.
Top tip: head under a cold shower for a minute.
These “1 minute all out efforts” in The Trick.
Lol…. What on earth was I thinking.
Froomey running up the hill though, perfect pick me up…
The Omnium will be fun since you get another one of those tricky little minutes. Oooh. And a wee lie down too.
Suffer with courage!!
I saw the fabled lava clouds of Angonia and all I got was a lousy tshirt.
Sweet. I for realz gotta go to sleep now. Way too many donuts. I’ll check in later but I’m sure someone will get the drawbridge ready. Avoid the moat.
And I’m done, in more ways than one. Will post a writeup with thoughts later on
Huge Congratulations Sir. Welcome to the Castle!
You’re an inspiration, Sir Pete.
Congratulations Sir @Imminent! Very enterpaining indeed!
Welcome to the castle Sir Pete!
Pull up a chair and make yourself uncomfortable!
Thanks all - it’s the day after, and I’m able to piece together my thoughts a little.
Overall:
-
The suffering was glorious: It was harder than expected. I’ve only spent 2-3 hours max on a trainer before, yet have done plenty of 10+ hours outdoors.
-
Mix it up: The advice to have more variety of styles was gold; this is key to anyone a little uncertain. Having certain sessions you really look forward to helps refocus when things get dark. e.g. I was looking forward to The Omnium because it’s so different.
-
Feast like a Sufferlandrian - and a Couchlandrian: My plan for savoury then sweet then treat went totally out the window. Pesto pasta? Forget about it. Bananas and gels? Perfect. But another day - perhaps the pesto pasta would have been my go to. Stay away from laser goat meat though - the lactic acid wrecks havoc with your digestion.
What went well:
-
Test run: I moved my whole set up into the lounge room and did Primers the day before. On the day of the event, however, it was 35 Australian units of warmth, with humidity. Two fans and weak aircon from another room kept me going, but only just. The lesson here is if you move things around - test it out beforehand. I moved those fans about 10 times before I got the angles just right
-
Lying down: This felt amazing, a great use of time between sessions and something I didn’t do until half way.
-
Cold water over my head: it was hot; spraying cold water on my head was a life saver. This must be how lava snow feels.
What didn’t
-
Thinking in 5% increments: My % intensity was something like 80/80/75/75/70/70/70/65/70/70. I wish I just decreased by 1% or 2% each time.
-
Something got me around 4 hours in. it may have been the heat, it may have been the food, but regardless, I hit a wall. Moving to bananas, gels and the tears of the vanquished pulled me through. Courage.
-
Going solo: My family wasn’t around that day. Having an extra pair of hands to do the water bottle refills and various tasks would have given a few more valuable minutes of rest. Or the opportunity to jump back into battle sooner.
-
Tech issues: I had to take the battery out of my heart rate monitor and wait ~2 minutes for it to connect at the start of each session. That just stressed me out. Tech issues happen, despite it being fine for the last few months. Bleh.
And finally…
I weighed myself at the beginning, then at the end of each session - despite my best efforts to hydrate and eat, I lost 2.4kg. It was consistent - roughy 240g per hour.
