SUFF Videos Are Disappearing – Here's What We Can Actually Do

I was also wondering why I could not search for Cobbler… It was literally renamed to Clobber!

I have cancelled my renewal as well after I realised that I no longer used Systm as my go to for training.

To @TheSonOfGVA, Knights, Dames, and Citizens of Sufferlandria,

Today is the US day of Thanksgiving, and I wanted to express my thanks to this community for the warmth and camaraderie this community has provided me since I immigrated here in 2019. In these seven years, we have all suffered through COVID and the wahooing of our nation. My life outside of Sufferlandria has been buffeted by knee surgery, cancer, the loss of my younger brother, and the loss of my father-in-law. And of course, the daily news buffets us with violence, vituperation and fragmentation. But you all have always been here, steadfast, supportive, and encouraging. As I have said elsewhere, the bonds of this imagined community are real and powerful, and I will always be grateful to Sir David and all the creators for this alternate reality, where I can control my suffering to some extent. @TheSonOfGVA, I have been thinking of how to respond to your apology these past months. There is no need for apology. Sometimes we are the hammer and sometimes the nail. I know that all Sufferlandrians will storm the castle wall until there is no life left in our bodies.

My knighthood quest is about a month away. In the meantime, I hope all Sufferlandrians will join the Knight Rides on Saturday at 10 am, North American eastern time. It is a great time to suffer together. @Glen.Coutts, your presence has been so supportive these past years, I hope to see you there next month.

Best wishes to everyone

P.S. I did not men to neglect those unlucky (lucky?) souls who have been sent by their wahoo superiors with a shovel to the Suf mines. I know the neglected mines shafts they are working to shore up weigh heavily upon them. We are a demanding citizenry, but I thank you for your work to find your inner Sufferlandrian and bring the remasters closer to the work of the Founders. Seems like all that digging in the Suf mines is making you stronger.

Thanks @wmalexmann! Very kind of you to say. As to your quest, there are no options but to

of course!! (even though the gem from where that image came is no longer in our beloved library :frowning: )

As a Sufferlandrian who hails from Canada, I can’t help but say I’m sorry to hear of all your non-SUF suffering. Our choice to suffer in Sufferlandria is one thing, a gift, really, and a blessing to be capable of it but having no choice in our suffering is quite another so on this American Thanksgiving I’ll say I’m grateful for the circumstances I find myself in and realize full well how much luck had to play in it all.

As to the Knight Rides, I don’t Zwift enough to justify yet another subscription, I’m paid up until near the end of March with TP so TPv gives me something to look at should a no-vid or non-SUF content pop up in my plan. That said, never say never (except for Defender). I actually enjoy Zwift and might sub up for a month or so again this winter.

Sir Glen- I learned last week that there is one (time limited) free zwift ride per month, and that on a banded group ride, once started, you can finish with the group. So maybe no new subscription is necessary. Some of my best memories of youth are from the backcountry of Alberta and Ontario, plus a train ride from White River to Jasper. If I can finagle a cycling trip to the Canadian Rockies before my legs are too old, I’ll be sure to let you know.

Best wishes

Edited: @wmalexmann I’m pretty sure Zwift cancelled that free ride a month thing. They used to allow 25km of free rides per month (I think that’s what you’re referring to) but afaik, it’s been cancelled. Similarly ended was the referral program where a subscriber could send a code to a friend and they’d each get a free month. I should add, that I’m from Manitoba (aka big sky country, where narry a hill can be found, let alone a mountain as glorious as that.

Think prairies. Like the Netherlands (including legalized weed) with headwinds that are so demoralizing and relentless they call them prairie mountains. The reward, if you’re lucky and the wind direction doesn’t change, is you get miles and miles of tailwind to rejuvenate your spirit.

@wmalexmann Do you have a page where you’re gonna post about your quest? R u planning on doing it while Zwifting? I could (quite easily actually) be persuaded to join for a bit.

Great words. Sums up my own, and likely many Sufferlandrians feelings I’m sure.

May your quest go awfully well. Awfully :volcano:

And I hope the tide has turned and there’s only suffering by choice in your future.

Grateful for each day, everyday here.

@Glen.Coutts Interesting questions that I had not considered.

The forum here seems like the easiest place to post, but Facebook, maybe Strava would work too.

Zwifting while on a knighthood seems perfect, but that never crossed my mind. I was just planning to watch 10 suf videos, air played to my tv. I am always happy to learn more, so tell me a bit about a zwift coquest - I could finally finish 4 horsemen plus some other long zwift route.

Please post about your quest here in the forums. I hate FB personally, but that is where people used to post their progress updates in the before times.

You can just start a new thread, post your menu d’Suffering (so we can mock…erm…share our thoughts on your choices and your order) as well as date, time, kit options, feed plan, your “why”, etc etc.

As to a co-Zwift quest, well that dependz™ on just how tech savvy you are as well as your willingness to engage in multiple tasks all while smashing yourself into oblivion for 10ish hours of fun and frolic.

My own quest, so so very long ago, was not such a beast. I essentially was in radio silence. Would not respond to texts, FB posts, messages, comments etc as I needed 100% of my focus to be on SUF, the suf video at hand, the effort, following my plan, snapping a quick pic after each vid to upload progress to FB (there was no forum at the time) then getting back to my quest. It wasn’t until I finished and passed through the castle gates that I read and responded to people’s comments and messages of support etc. I suffer best when completely alone. Even my minions were forbidden from communicating with me or entering the suffer chamber until I was done. But that’s me.

Many many others prefer a more social suffering, chatting back and forth between and sometimes during efforts, sharing mid-vid pics and such. Texting, “likes”, “ha-ha”, etc etc to the heckling and encouragement coming from ‘round the nation.

If that be you, and you can manage dual recording SUF on one systm (like laptop or phone) while “passively” Zwifting via another (another laptop, AppleTV etc) then perhaps a couple folks could virtually join you and the bazillions of others who happen to be Zwifting at the time.

I have done that many times but typically only for no-vids or group rides like the Knight Rides. I’d control my trainer with the MacOS app on my laptop while passively connecting power/cadendce/HR to Zwift via AppleTV, and use the Zwift CA to chat on Zwift.

I’m fairly certain others have done their quest while Zwifting, if for nothing but to get the bonus XP. If you do decide to do that, and the time/date works for me, I’ll certainly try to pop in at some point to remind you that this was all your idea and what a great idea it must have seemed at the time :innocent:

I did do a dual record during 2 of my knighthoods. The first time I did the Uber Pretzel. The second time I did 4 Horsemen.

I recorded my knighthood on my laptop and had my Zwift ride running the whole time on my phone just reading my power but not controlling resistance.

If you get it set up properly to start with you can then ignore it the rest of the day as long as all your sensors allow for multiple channels. I had my HR and Cadence sensors using BT on my phone and Ant+ on my laptop.

Maybe @wmalexmann we can chat about your Knighthood attempt and SYSTM/Zwift during our Knights Ride tomorrow morning. See you there.

@Medina81 @Glen.Coutts @emacdoug @Blackwater I have been riding, planning, and experimenting this past week or so.

My quest will begin in two weeks at 8 ish am Eastern Standard time. I will ride in Sufferlandria and watopia (Four Horsemen) simultaneously. If I run Four Horsemen on the iPad, I can ride through Sufferlandria on the TV and still could see any fellow travelers in watopia who wished to join and perhaps share a word or two, assuming I’m not hallucinating from the suffering.

The road to knighthood:

  1. 14 vice grips
  2. Fight club
  3. Revolver
  4. Power station
  5. The chores
  6. The Omnium
  7. Nine hammers (my favorite - I am following much advice re the “1/2 way” point)
  8. The rookie
  9. a very dark place
  10. TBTITW

Why Nine Hammers: Nine Hammers always brings John Mellencamp’s “Hurts So Good” to mind. Before its modification, I managed to hit all the targets twice and felt triumphant, as well as thoroughly knackered - endorphin induced delirium, no doubt. 8 of the 10 videos are from Ye Olde Sufferlandria, but I figured that the remastering minions deserved to join the ride. In particular, the new Power Station is a worthy remaster.

Meal plan: I have several pill, liquid, and gel sources of electrolytes, energy, and anti-inflammation. But also a real lunch: bananas, peanut butter & jelly, rice pudding & tart cherry juice. My 6+ hour Blood Sweat and Gears centuries (3000+ meters of climbing) in North Carolina were fueled similarly (except for the pudding), so I am optimistic about feeding but also open to suggestion.

All advice is welcome.

All of your encouragement has been wonderful.

I’ll repost this in a dedicated knighthood thread.

December 21st it is. That gives me two days in hospital to recover enough to sit for four hours in the car on December 24 on the way to visit family. Fingers crossed.
