It’s holy sufferlandrian water, not holy christian water. Different brands Really sorry you felt offended, and since you explained it makes sense, but it’s also good to acknowledge that subjectively we don’t view things the same way, and it’s not because of a bad intent, but rather we just process things in a different way. A little understanding goes a long way
I don’t spend much time on this forum - I have been a Sufferlandrian since the beginning though, when we just downloaded the videos. I don’t find the other platforms, no vids anywhere near as engaging as the Sufferfest content. I haven’t tried many of the remastered workouts yet.
I am still on the old Sufferfest facebook group though and still spent time in my pain cave enjoying the Suff content.
I am relieved to hear that you aren’t going to de-suff everything. I am probably not creative enough to submit any suggestions for re-suff-ing the videos, just wanted to add my voice here.
I submitted my feedback but wrote in the text that it was applicable to all the remastered videos, rather than specific to one. Might be worth having an option to submit more general feedback or an ‘all of the above’ option.
Really encouraged by the engagement though, and for now this will keep me subscribing while I give the team some time to work on the videos.
Checkboxes instead of radio buttons on the form could be useful?
Thin Air (about 25:30)
Original:
<Flat Section> *<> Means red banner text.
“These guys seem to be taking it a bit too easy, eh?”
“Well, use this flat bit of the climb to sit up drink and stretch a bit.”
“Whaaaaat? NOOOO!”
“See what happens when you stop suffering. Your enemies come back to you.” (The nemesis “the shark” is on screen)
<THE PRESSURE IS ON>.
New version:
<OUT OF THE TUNNEL> “Take a moment to reset.”
(which makes no sense, but sure)
“Remember to stay hydrated” (Is this a spin class?)
“Sit up and stretch”
<THE AIR IS GETTING THINNER> (very intimidating)
(… a bit later)
“Wow! Solid pacing here!”
I mean what do I need to say here? I could write down the whole script, but just play both videos side by side. This was one random point I looked at, not searching out the worst.
The video content isn’t terrible. But the plot is lost. There’s no shark, and some of the shots just aren’t as closeup and action packed, but it’s actually a pretty good selection of video. It feels somewhat constrained by trying to match the Thin Air frozen mountain theme, and I guess any time you try to remake a classic there’s going to be some let down. I think this one isn’t terribly done all in all, but the work on the plot is lacking, and that’s maybe as much about shots/cuts as text.
The form has been updated to select ‘all’ workouts.
We have also just swapped out the remastered video of ‘Angels’, your workout history will still be visible and training plans will are be affected. It is on the feedback list too.
HI Sir Rupert it looks like the OG Rue The Day is back but it also says there is a new version available ? Do you know what the differences are ?
We have reverted back to the original workout profile so you can see your activity history but the video associated is the remastered one featuring the 2021 Women’s Gent-Wevelgem race footage.
If I am wrong here please let me know and correct me, I’ve never done Rollercoaster so can’t comment on that one, at the minute Primers, Igniter and Do As Your Told are all the remasters not the originals. From what I can see Angels, Power Station, Rue The Day, Thin Air and Who Dares, ISLAGIATT are old or partly remastered but with the old text and storylines still there, Rue The Day even has the full phone call with Grunter at the start and the I Will Beat My Ass Tv coverage. Who Dares has Coryn Rivera winning too but all these videos all have an A New Version Of This Workout Is Available as well as Rollercoaster a new version is available for it too but what the differences are in each I am not sure and don’t know whether to keep the old or download the new. My MacBook has both versions but my iPad only seems to have the new versions ??? Not sure what’s going on there tbh, maybe because all the Sufferfest videos on my MacBook are downloaded but they aren’t on the iPad. The shark is back on Thin Air, I don’t think he was on the remastered version. Just checked Angels the old version has Richie Porte in the yellow jersey doing a TT, the new is the Women’s Tour De Suisse. I think as long as you had all the videos downloaded you can still play the old versions. If you were just streaming them its only the new versions available although I could still be wrong on this part
The OG Cadence Builds is also available again with the last one being around the GP Track
I’m happy to see an official answer on the remasters issue. I left some feedback using that form, but I don’t know how relevant it is, as it’s just echoing previous comments. Nonetheless, even as a +1 somewhere I hope it counts. Will be following this thread with keen interest and hoping to see some positive results.
The form only appears to allow for feedback about the story. Where do we provide feedback about the (editing of the) new footage?
I checked Thin Air about 12 hours ago and it was definitely remastered, with almost entirely or entirely new footage. Look at the 25:30 and see if you FLAT SECTION (original) or OUT OF THE TUNNEL (remaster) as the easier section starts. But things seem in flux. I saw original Power Station.
Edit: It’s possible the answer depends on the platform? My checks are on android, because I have downloads on windows.
Yesterday I saw original Power Station(climb during last MAP block) and then a couple of hours later, remastered Power Station (Tour of the Alps during the same section). Both were streamed, both on the same iPhone 16. As you say, looks like things are in flux.
If you download or stream the updated versions they will be remastered.
If you had previously downloaded a video, you should still be able to play it and the app will also prompt you that there is a new version available (IE the remastered one).
Right, but yesterday there was some exception to that with Power Station, which reverted on streaming. Anyway, I finally got suffer through a preview of the new one. Oh gosh.
One thing that stands out, other than everything being bad, bland, unrelated, uninspired, poor camera-work, is that the travelling donut salesman is gone, like the Knights going into battle in Primers. The idea that there is a strong will to fix things seems a little suspect when it seems clear that the licensing issue is not with the original providers of race footage, but with those/he who retain(s) rights/royalties for the Sufferfest IP. If I’m wrong, bring back the donut salesman. The video around that was also super though, water on the camera lens and all. You’re not going to fix that interval by adding some rally text.
P.S.
“Concentrate, don’t take your eyes off the rider in front of you” and it immediately pans out to a helicopter view of the whole peleton from 300 meters away, obscured by trees.
19:08 to 21:30 in Power Station. Just look at the original with music, and the new thing. If that doesn’t speak for itself, and I guess Wahoo has seen it, then what will a survey say? I could list so many, but that’s a great example.
Put wifi on and went back onto the old Mac to see if anything changed, the OG Do As Your Told is back as well as Cadence Builds but Igniter and Primers are still the new ones, even though I downloaded all the Sufferfest videos at the same time so they should all be the same which were the OG versions but that seems not to be the case.
And One more thing although this has been said multiple times by people, a lot of us find any reference to the word hooligan very offensive to say the least and if Wahoo had done any and I do mean ANY kind of research they would have understood this and hopefully would not have went anywhere near it. Talk about digging a gigantic hole and offending at least half your user base isn’t a good starting off point.
This would be the end. The Wretched is the Mona Lisa of suf videos.
Intense workout, great soundtrack, TdF footage, epic ending.
Don’t touch it.
If they do, I still have my original download from 2013 if required.
