@Rupert Thank you for your reply regarding the licensing issue AND, even though some of the new video footage is, well, disappointing, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the effort put in so as to not turn the videos into No-Vids!!!
I get the licensing of race footage. what I don’t get is the fact that the recovery vids for Power Station (the green guy who’s trying to break the speed limit) and Angels (Cochlandrian training) have also disappeared.
Exactly, if their reason for the poor quality is that they needed to do this quickly, then surely it would have been quickest to leave those bits?
I was going to say the same thing. Id rather them make awesome workouts like Joyride a no vid or kill it . Or make it kNigHts oNlY, another flummoxing Wahoo ****-It-Up.
Rupert, I have mad respect for you. I believe that you were one of my private coaches when Sufferfest had that program. You were probably told by someone that the soundtracks are the same but they are not telling the truth, there are only a couple intervals where the music is the same. A lot of the new music sounds like generic rock heard at pump-you-up corporate retreats (check out last two intervals). It’s awful.
Sorry you are having to deal with this but it isnt the fault of us, Wahoo’s paying customers.
The music in the last two intervals of Joyride isn’t the same music that was in the original.
Oh, and as much as I don’t really like the majority of the new video content in the remasters, if they make the videos no-vid, that would surly kill my subscription.
Just sayin’
Honestly Eric, they’re killing a lot of Sufferlandrian’s subscriptions. I’m sure this is not the end of the ‘remasters’ (read obliteration of Sufferlandrian folklore, humor, engaging workouts, ec).
Joyride is unrideable now as a SUF workout, as is Thin Air and pretty much all of the remastered content.
I feel sorry for Rupert having to be the bearer of bad tidings/brunt of SUfferlandrian frustration.
The company (Wahoo) have right royally messed up Systm.
@washsaint Nope. It’s not the end of the remasters. Rupert updated the list of SUF videos to be remastered. It’s quite extensive. As I’ve said before, I appreciate their effort so as to not turn the videos into no-vids but it’s like they didn’t even try to match the new footage to the old. Take Joyride for example. This remaster was done after our input was requested and yet all we have is footage of ITTing. No cobbles, no crashes, no “infighting” for position, nothing even resembling the previous footage. I don’t know. Maybe I’m too critical. We don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors. Maybe this is how they were “instructed” to remaster the videos. I don’t know. We don’t know. Is it a money thing for rights/licensing of the footage? I’m sure it is. Maybe premium footage is $$$$$ and not no so premium footage is $$. I don’t know. I’m really trying to give the folks who are “on the front line” with this the benefit of the doubt. Maybe Rupert is telling them “Hey, this is how we need to do this.” and corporate is tell him “No. This is how we are going to do it.” I don’t know. What do you think Sir?
I put my plans for another Knighthood attempt on hold after I saw what happened to Power Station. Just watching 10 demastered videos in a row is enough epic suffering for all the wrong reasons
@kah I will have to agree with you sir. Every interval is now footage of ITTing. The new remastered video doesn’t resemble the old video at all. It’s like they don’t even make an attempt to match the new footage to the old footage, i.e, cobbles, group riding, fighting for position, etc. I don’t know. I’m at a loss at this point. Surly there is a reasoning for this….or maybe there’s not🤷🏻♂️
I’ve been thinking similar, but maybe there’s a final opportunity to still find 10 untouched Sufferlandrian masterpieces before even that becomes impossible?
Unfortunately, work commitments are likely to mean I can’t consider it for quite a few months, and by then my excitement might have waned. Let’s see…
Could not agree more. 10 remastered (aka - gutted to unwatchability) vids holds zero interest. Power Station was my 7th vid when I did my knighthood. Now I didn’t finish it as a stand alone. NOTHING in the remastered vids could carry me through 10 workouts.
It sure feels to me that they want to distance themselves from Sufferfest and reshape the platform to something else. The problem is, there is nothing unique or special about the platform without it.
And without what Sufferfest has always been until the remaster, what is the point of a Knighthood anyway?
Agree
The problem with the new Power Station.
From this….
To this….
Don’t get me wrong, Wahoo owns the Sufferfest so if they want to put their own “Wahoo” anecdotes in the videos, who am I to tell them different but maybe put this anecdote in a recovery set and not in a “working” set. “Keep Going Hard! You’re Almost There! Stay On His Wheel All The Way Over The Top Of This Climb!” would have been better here. JMTCW.
Yep, this is on the (now very long) list of “remastered” vids that require re-remastering and we just have to do our best to hang in there while Rupert and the gang get to them. It’s gonna take some time. What I’m hoping for at this point is regular updates with what’s been re-remastered based on all our feedback so we can take another look and keep that feedback loop open.
Yes. And I believe Rupert or Sir Michael has mentioned that the rush remasters will get some re-remastering based on our feedback. As long as that’s the case I will reserve my judgement until they are re-remastered. But it could take some time since that list is unfortunately really long.
I’m speechless
So glad I didn’t renew my subscription. I’d have needed an extra SUF bucket
@JGreengrass Imma goin down with the ship.
The Sufferfest Thin Air with 2min, 27sec to go in the workout….
Wahoo Thin Air remaster with 2min, 27sec to go in the workout….
The Sufferfest Thin Air with 2min, 11sec to go in the workout….Pain. Agony. Courage on their faces….
Wahoo Thin Air remaster with 2min, 11sec to go in the workout….Back of the jersey shot….
BUT, then Wahoo added this in with 29sec to go in the workout. This is actually pretty good IMHO….
@Rupert and those that are tasked with these remasters, I am honestly not trying to criticize or de-value your work on the remasters. I’m sure that video editing, cropping, adding text/music, etc is a lengthy and time consuming process and again, let me again say Thank You! for not turning the videos into no-vids🤮 but it’s the little things such as those shown in the first 4 photos between the original SUF video and the Wahoo remaster that, IMHO, MAKE the video/workout. One little thing I did notice, though, that you kept in the remaster of Thin Air, is snow covered road sides so, Kudos!
Just a little input from a short, skinny KOS.
Again, thanks again for not turning them into no-vids!
