The 2025 wahooligan tour stage 5 - official race thread

Oh. My. Word. SAME.

My sponsor @Heretic gave me permission to save these last two for Stage 7 and the Knights Ride. I feel pretty decent after completing Stage 5A and 5B and snarfing down 10 of these babies. Still riding everything at 100% Intensity. It’s hard to sprint with a donut :doughnut: in your hand or clenched in your teeth. What a pleasure to ride with everyone on the Zoom ride, and thank you to Alex Stieda and Davis Phinney for being so generous with their time and their conversation!

Physiologically it doesn’t make sense as the ATP-PC system takes longer than 50 seconds of recovery to recharge. BUT focusing on cadence vs watts/intensity it made a lot more sense. The 80 rpm cadence made me think more about firing my quads and glutes a la weight lifting.

My huge respect to you Sir! I almost couldn’t believe my eyes!
There you were chowing down on doughnuts, I choked a bit just sipping water. :joy:
I felt so privileged to enjoy all of your company during this ride and would Also like to thank Alex and Davis for their time, along with Lauren (and were there not others from the Dpf team riding?)
I’m struggling to Remember what day it is and what stage I’m riding so recalling what person went with what group was, well, tricky.

How cool to hear basically riders reunion stories, and hear Davis Phinney and Alex Steida tales while riding cash register! That was really neat.
What a pleasure.

Cash Register rules. Burgberg blows.

I’m off to partake in some Trappist Ale.

Oh my, I didn’t even think of asking that :unamused:trying to get setup after work and before it started consumed any brain power I had remaining.

The zoom call was recorded. We’ll need to check with Team DPF about getting access. Stand by!

I do have some pictures with @Medina81 eating donuts.

Ah, Burgberg.

“This is going to hurt” entering sprint 17. You think so? “We’re in this together!” Perhaps, but the minions aren’t taunting you with the zone 1 target heart rate during “recovery.”

I tried doing the seated sprints for the first 2 then gave up trying to hit cadence or to sit—instead stood and just went for power. It kind of worked.

It is for me:

Did you use a previously downloaded Cash Register, or did you stream/download the latest one?

All of the tour stages have been updated, from what I can tell, to include a DPF message at the end and to include TWT tags on the workout.

Ah, good catch. Yes, you are right it’s one of the few videos I’ve downloaded some time Ago. Reminds me to download all Sufferfest videos before they “remaster” them…

Stage 5 Tour of SUF - Retro Gear post.
I’m going to make some people mad by telling you that bicycles today are no longer beautiful. If you spend a little time appreciating the photos that accompany this post, you will see that there was a moment when functionality and beauty could coexist. Pantograph components, elegant Campagnolo Delta brakes and incredibly ornate lugs all combined to create bicycles that could win races but that were also as exquisite as a stunning painting. Glad I lived and rode in this era. Anybody else feel the same?

Absolutely gorgeous!

Those lugs to the downtube…:heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

I mean, I absolutely agree…and yet?

There are plenty of bespoke and custom makers out there still making art into bicycles, but I can also appreciate the  of a really sweet, aerodynamic curve.

But yeah…

Downtube shifters weren’t the quickest or easiest way to shift while trying to ride with power. But the bikes sure were polished and fancy.

OTOH, friction shifting ensured no annoying skips and weird shifts from modern index systems. Sweet, manual action.

Oh, I remember them well. Lol. My bike
Had them.

I will take the ease of modern shifting.
No one on the modern peloton uses them.
