My superman laser beams are fading. My mind is fighting more than ever. To late in the night for intervals.
After this ride I had a discussion w/my wife about the fine line between perseverance and giving in. Fortunately, I showed the prior quality. Miles-in-the-legs made this harder than expected.

+1
With great unhappiness, but a nod to common sense, I am abandoning my first TOS after three stages. My mild head cold which started on Sunday has turned into a raging, phlegmy, chest cold and cough (still negative COVID tests). I can’t deny anymore that each stage is making me sicker. So with regret, I stop for this year. Once recovered, I look forward to finishing.
The model of self destruction. I need help
Oh man! Sorry to hear this but yes, be smart and please take care of yourself, maybe you can be a late joiner to the #alttour folks, they are CRUSHING it!
I think we all need help or we wouldn’t be here ![]()
Take care of yourself! Sorry to hear that but glad you are taking the common sense approach.
I really enjoyed The Model. It is a great addition to the ToS and library. I found the first set of intervals to be the most difficult, with the remaining intervals more feasible than I feared. I was encouraged prior to my ride to read that many had completed it at 100% … it helped me to know it is possible.
The descent at 47minutes was truly SUFBeauty. Of course, I am sure most all of us imagined how pleasurably sufferable it would be to ride up that same road.
I saw one text bubble about Gerry, but didn’t get the reference. Was it something I missed earlier in the video or some other notable reference?
Instant classic of a video, that one. Give me this any day over what’s coming up tomorrow…
Anyone else find themselves doing ‘interval maths’ during the recoveries? Something like ‘those next yellow bars look smaller, are they 25 seconds? 20? 15?…there’s about 23 minutes left, but that recovery looks shorter too, so that must mean oh wait BANG 20!’
On second thoughts…
47minutes
So SUFfing beautiful. It’s an image that will stick with me for a long time to come. Seriously awesome. ![]()

Yep. I try not to look at the timers (though I often do anyway and I’m glad they’re there
) and try to count slower in my head to my breathing or to a few pedal strokes, then when the moving chevrons indicating 10 seconds left I’ve turned a 30 second interval into 15-20 seconds. Mental tricks. Doesn’t always work ![]()
Edit: also Welcome to the forums.
Take care of yourself - wise decision not to push it
Hope you feel better soon!
First time completing The Model, I decided to save it for the tour. Great workout and it’ll definitely be on my list to repeat when I don’t have 3 stages already in my legs!
Loved the music throughout. ![]()
