ToS 2022: Stage 6: TBTITW is OPEN -- but is it really the best?

Stage 6 is one of my least favorite videos. I figured it was mis-named the first time I rode it in 2018 and my opinion hasn’t changed. The cadence targets were merely suggestions for this one.

It has been said that one of the biggest mistakes cyclists make is “Not riding hard enough on your hard rides, and easy enough on your easy rides.” see Cycling Tips

I’m proposing dual citizenship. Problem solved!!!

Donuts AFTER Stage 7. I have to fuel for two LONG rides this weekend. One is a prep ride for providing bike support for the local Bataan March and the other is for a local three stage race which has risen from the ‘dead’.

That was not the best thing in the world. I am cooked - surprisingly so given what intervals.icu is telling me about by fatigue level.

Yay, another “race” stage! :face_holding_back_tears::cry::sob:

But perspective is your friend - after Giro d’Italia Donne, 45 minutes didn’t seem so awful. Like a good sprinter, I found a place in the pack and stayed there…TBTITW is being done.

FWIW, though, I like the music and video for TBTITW very much. Love the Belgian Classics!

Done! Don’t understand why I found the first race so much harder than the second? Must have got properly warmed up by the second

Completed. Felt pretty good today. I had to dig deep during the last couple of minutes. A little stem aftertaste.

Unexpected during this stage, but the KICKR Climb added to the experience. It helps break up those longer MAP intervals with lower cadence sections.

Stage 6 :white_check_mark:. TBTITW on GMTI was, almost, pleasant. Thought I might have been the Couchlandrian infiltrator given my pre-tour detraining plan but then I realized my legs were actually on fire :man_facepalming:t3:

I can hardly wait until tomorrow (is over :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:).

Just do them back to back to back. If you blow up and need to dial it back a bit it’s still a total success. You’ve crushed this, your first tour, so why stop now? You’ve got this! COURAGE!

Apparently this was only the 3rd time I’ve done this workout (the 4th time was only part of the The Best Way Is Blended). And it’s broken me EVERY time. Of course the last time was part of GSL. And this was the 6th stage of TOS. But still. Oof. I can’t believe I even made it to stage 6 of this tour before breaking. It took a special kind of mental toughness for me to get through AVDP. I still can’t believe I made it through AVDP at 100%. And I never intended to do the TOS entirely at 100%. I only planned to get as far through as I could each day before dialing down the intensity when I needed to. Today was that day. But what a glorious day it was. My hamstrings and calves were tight all yesterday after AVDP. I could still feel them in the warm up and hoped the tightness would fade as I warmed up. But it never faded. I made it through half of the first race and then my hamstrings said I had enough and I dialed it back to 90%. Still suffered through at 90%, but at least I made it all the way through and I can give everything I have left on stage 7.

@Glen.Coutts You’ve got quite the sock collection. Impressive.

My sock collection is boring. I take B&W photos of them because that’s the only colors I have.

I was one of the “founding” members in the GCN sock o’ the month club and hung in for 2 years. I liked the length and fit so stuck with them. If you think I’ve got a good collection you should see @DameLisa’s.

I have only two pairs of socks that aren’t boring. Sir Glen makes me think I need more.

That’s a lot socks! I guess you don’t like doing laundry much.

They actually help me get my head in the game. I’m not even kidding. Don’t underestimate the value of good kit to give you the extra push when you need it.

I tried to join the GCN sock club a few times, but the website just gives me errors when I try to join. I e-mailed their support and got no reply, so I gave up. Guess I’ll stick with shades of gray (grey?).

But I do have cheaper socks for everyday workouts, and nicer socks (plus my SUF socks) for motivation on the tougher days.

May compression socks do come in colors, but they aren’t UCI legal.

A small selection below, this basket is three layers deep in cycling socks. Sorry about the mess, it is Tour week afterall.
