Way to represent @Brann_Mac_Finnchad!!!
I hate to be the spoilsport, but my alias gives it away.
Although I have done it 10 times, the pedaling advice in EOS is dated.
That’s fair. I tend to do the best I can, as smoothness doesn’t hurt. But pedalling like for more than short periods I know will trigger my knee pain.
One long ride on Garmin Connect. They are separated in the Systm history anyway. That way you get both to analyse.
What I choose to put on Strava differs. Often friends just get to see the main Systm workout of the day (typically the Sufferfest one) - the rest, in my case, will usually just be some uninteresting NoVid warm up or cool down or Inspo-vid for extra time in the saddle.
But you - doing a crazy hard tour like yours - really must spam the Strava feed and display them all!
If you look at an electromyogram of the muscle engagement during a pedal stroke, the vast majority of the engagement is from TDC (top dead center) to BDC (bottom dead center).
Hence, the idea of scraping mud, or distributing the force around the pedal stroke (i.e. smoothness) does not help. In fact doing the latter can interfere with the muscle engagement of the foot that is at TDC. So smoothness can be problematic.
Not sure exactly how important it is, but I try to pay at least some attention to BALANCE more so than SMOOTHNESS. I have a tendency to do most of the work with my dominant leg, which then tires out sooner.
Differences of 2 or 3% are acceptable to me, but I try to control my effort better when it gets higher than that, particularly for tt type efforts.
Does this make sense or am I fretting (slight exaggeration) over something negligible?
You are definitely right about being as balanced as possible. I have a similar problem which I can notice as well if I am unbalanced. You want your upper body as stable as possible.
When I had a body composition analysis done, I had slightly more muscle on the dominant leg.
perhaps you have some kind of pictorial representation of such an EMG?
Yep, just as I thought, it looks pretty graphy
This is from Elements of Style and fight club respectively yesterday. Assiomo pedals.
And yeah, I have an imbalance which is getting worse. I’m guessing it is a fit issue.
Am I the only one in here that is aware of the graph posting penalty during the Tour or are y’all just yanking my chain?
Sir, that clearly is a chart
As I understood it, the graph posting was to avoid sharing and comparing power numbers and such…which you will note I erased from the Strava screenshot.
alrighty then. I thought it was a general “ban” on graphs of our data. Honestly, idgas, as I think it’s all in good fun.
Sir @glen, you are proving that although The Uncomfortable Have Nothing To Fear, the unbalanced definitely do!
Oh, I’m unbalanced alright.
@Brann_Mac_Finnchad
Sir - how did you get Garmin Connect to show you your power data from your Assiomas? I also have Assiomas but have never been able to figure out how to see my data like that. When I look at the charts (both on my IOS and online), I don’t see this info, nor do I see how to customize it.
Thanks!! (More than you)
What device are you recording on? Older ones don’t support those metrics–including the prior gen of Edge devices (my 530 didn’t).
Not a Sir…working on it! This ToS should help.
ToS stage 2 is completed. I’m feeling slightly more like the crushee than the crusher though. TT efforts are not my strong suit.
As you can see, the beauty treatments in The Model may have worked–compare finishing Team Scream to Model.
My GF does think that all my Suffering on the trainer has led to nice skin…
The entire time through The Model, my Garmin stamina estimate kept flirting with “you ain’t gonna survive this”…but I did!
Knighthood Protocols engaged…except the app wouldn’t register my Kickr power on the second one and I had to go through several reboots. So my break was longer than intended.
Music choices were Conan Soundtracks for workout 1, and my workout playlist–ending with the Xena title and Diggy Diggy Hole for the Model.
