I just started using IV and like it for an add on to SYSTM. I guess I have a few months to explore it more and make a decision on it or this platform. I can’t justify both.

Are there any other viable free options that I can use occasionally when I want a break from SYSTM?

MyWhoosh is free.

Don’t know anything about it. What would you compare it to? Thanks

Zwift. It’s less “gamified” and more geared towards racing, but I’ve heard mention of MyWhoosh adding more “gamification” going forward.

It’s basically Zwift without the social aspect. By that I mean you’ll mostly be riding alone, even though it’s online and they have races, but it’s nowhere close to Zwift.

And I was just really beginning to enjoy IndieVelo before I got sick last month.

Supposedly Founders Club benefits will transfer to TP somehow, but haven’t heard how, yet.

I’ll be interested to see how this transition goes. At this point I’m too jaded to be optimistic.

My Whoosh is free, for now. Eventually , it’s investors will want to see a return on investment. It’s a sneaky thing, but we have to remember the line “There’s no such thing as a free lunch”. Someone is paying for all the development and server resources.

One of the developers of IndieVelo was a Zwift developer. He had access to some things Zwift that others didn’t. That relationship was terminated upon the purchase of IndieVelo by TrainingPeaks. It’s going to be interesting how this space develops. The good thing is that IndieVelo is now associated with a company with solid roots. (Added missing sentence about Zwift development access.)

Because it worked so well with RGT right? :money_mouth_face:

@Malte I see this move as different. Wahoo already had a workout player in SYSTM and initially it seemed like RGT was bought to provide other ways to do workouts - and maybe to do things like ProRides virtually eventually. Despite the additional investment additional users didn’t seem to materialize and there was probably some incentive to partner with Zwift once the litigation was settled meaning RGT was an obstacle.

TrainingPeaks doesn’t currently have a workout player despite its large workout catalog so the acquisition does add some immediate value for TP users. I suspect that it may also have a much larger user base to work from and the recent Zwift price increase has also upset some users as well.

Also TP is seeing a lot more competition these days so it may have been a move to provide some differentiation.

I could be way off here but I do think it is an interesting move.

There is (was) only one developer of indieVelo and he worked with the Zwift anti-cheating agency (ZADA), not directly or in the core functionality. There’s a bunch of information around online, and Ray Maker does a great summary in his video & blog regarding the acquisition; he’s a fascinating character.

Today I tried out indieVelo/TP V. I like it. itReminds me a bit of RGT, which I really enjoyed. But I sort of missed the possibility to give Ride ons.

Over the past few days TP would not keep my IV log in. I had to type it in each time. As of an hour ago, I can not log in at all with my old IV account. The option still exists except when I click on it I get a message that I have to create a TP account.
