Wahoo Elemnt Bolt - MPH/Gradient not working 17/08/2025

Having the exact same issue with my ROAMv1. Date set to Jan 2006, GPS unusable, no speed or tracking.

Reported to customer support but no reply yet.

I can only imagine the stress and horror if that would have happened on a bikepacking trip in the middle of nowhere :skull:

Let‘s hope they can do a firmware hotfix soon, as there seem to be loads of users with their units not working.

Here’s an article on the issue on DCRainmaker’s site: Wahoo BOLT/ROAM V1 GPS Units Reset 20 Years Back, Becomes Unusuable | DC Rainmaker

Of note is this update from Wahoo:

Update #1 – Aug 18th @ 10:30AM Eastern: Wahoo’s cycling product manager says “We have all hands on deck working towards a root cause analysis that will lead to a firmware update to resolve this issue. I don’t have more of an update at this time but will share as we progress on resolving this issue. “

Hi.

I hade exactly the same problem

I couldn’t establish a GPS stable signal

It was discontinued

Look like a lot of wahoo user has got this problem.

even today I can not be able to establish a good GPS signal

Irritating

So the device is pointless

No GPS No ride. No Strava No routes.
Bad

Same problem Old Wahoo Elemnt.
GPS not working is going on and off.
Sundays 95km ride was logged 82km no Strava segment accepted pga GPS loss.
Pure luck i find this post. I thougt my Elemnt was toast.
Hope there will be a fix soon

Myself and another friend having the same issue y’day (17/08), has it been the same today?

Yeah did a loop around the block after factory reset & repairing with phone to test, still same thing, everything gone after a few seconds and for the brief moment it works GPS isn‘t even precise and puts me all over the place. So annoying

Original Elemnt, also had the same issues yesterday and today…date moved on to the 02 January 2006 today. I also achieved a max speed of 301 mph today….

Did exactly the same. Same result.

Same problem…

Though it’s not a fix, you can get your ride into Strava.

The ride uploaded to my ELEMNT companion app timestamped back in 2006. Go to that activity, email yourself the .fit file. Then follow the link above to change the date to when you did your activity and upload it to Strava. Segment times and all that stuff will come through after a few minutes

Ok. I just came back from a short ride and here are my thoughts.

  • GPS is still the same but I thought it was better at reconnecting w/ GPS compared to yesterday’s ride. However, today’s ride was significantly shorter so it may just be my mind.
  • Both MPH (I have the speed sensor but it still didn’t work yesterday) and Gradient worked and as a result, the distance and AVG SPD seem correct.
  • Because the GPS is still out, the computer did not pick up my deviations. What is now uploaded to Strava is the previously planned route and not the one I actually did. Luckily, the deviation was very minor, more to see how the computer would react.
  • Everything else, HRM, Power, etc seemed okay.
  • I emphasize, both MPH and Gradient never went out in my short ~ 13 mile ride.
  • I had to manipulate the FIT file to adjust the date.

Hope this helps others.

Same here, while riding in the Netherlands, Wahoo pointed me in Iceland and after that in a straight line somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, west of Ireland. I also managed to have a maximumspeed of 650 km/h with my bike, which is a worldrecord…..

I am competing in the World Transplant Games tomorrow and my roamv1 is useless to me for pacing.

I have a 10km TT at 10.08 cet. Shocking zero comms or support from wahoo

Unfortunately I don’t have it with me. I’ve travelled from Ireland to Germany for the games. I’m in Dresden

Good question and I should have clarified. I have the speed sensor. But yesterday, even w/ the speed sensor, it didn’t work.

Same with my wahoo Roam V1 today.

Device continuously losing GPS location, does not display speed.

Sometimes location seem to pop up somehow but after that device pause the ride automatically  my training today was cut to pieces and partially lost because of this  obviously no navigation is workingas well.

Thinking about people who are in long rides bikepacking/travelling or having events today, it’s horrible :face_with_peeking_eye:

Same problem with my Wahoo ELMNT BOLT V1, since 2 days the GPS and speed is not working anymore. Also syncing with the phone is not working as well. What shall we do now. It worked fine and was bought in 2020. The ride also is displayed with the date January 2006

Same problem here. Started only two days ago. Bolt V1 can’t acquire GPS signal most of the time. When it does, it does so only briefly, pauses the ride and doesn’t resume.

Glad I found this thread. Thought my Bolt v1 had gone faulty. Have messaged Wahoo so hopefully a fix soon

I’ve had issues for 2 weeks, I’ve got an ELEMNT bolt v1. I’ve even had to swap my power pedals due to lack of transmission via BT or ANT+. Yesterday, nothing, no k/ph, no power, no cadence, no calories etc. The only thing that worked was the clock. I hope there is a fix
