Wahoo X November Challenge - The Sufferfest

I did TS first since that’s sort of my personal nemesis. Now come to think of it, GAWI, GOAT and the likes of it are my nemesis since it’s a sustained effort kind of workout. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Oh no please no

While I find GOAT challenging, the low cadence helps me get through the efforts. I’d have never thought of this as a sustained effort type of ride.

I could barely hold the power targets with GAWI this morning even with 80%. Was just hanging on to dear life with the cadence targets.
Probably it’s from the fatigue?

Yep. :joy: :joy:

If you finished with GAWI after competing the others at even close to 100% there’s no question your legs would be a little, umm, tired.

This is actually a great tip for anyone considering a KoS quest. NONE of these rides were designed to be preceded or followed with other intense rides so doing 4 in a row, reminds you that a KoS quest is an endurance event (aka a marathon and not a sprint).

I did TS first and GAWI last as well. The first half of GAWI going felt good, but the second half was a struggle.

It’s always good to think of a strategy that works (i.e. that works for you, everyone is different). mine for this challenge was from long to short:
Team Scream
The Model
GAWI
Half Is Easy

As for me, the first half was sort of alright with the dialed down intensity, the final part, my word… was really close to dialing it down further to 70% but or even calling it quits.
Was not only tired in the legs, but mentally too from staring at the wall in front of me and that stem. :face_with_peeking_eye:
Not enough positive self talk yesterday to be honest.

Initially I was planning that too, but, I thought, how about I get it done and over with all those AC and MAP efforts and just end with a ride which focusses mainly on FTP. Not the best idea now that I think of it once more.
It was quite a similar situation for me when I did The Quest when GOAT was my penultimate ride for the day, really struggled. Defender as the finale was bad enough but at least I enjoyed it more than GOAT at that point in time. :joy:

I also chose to go from long to short, KoS style with minimal breaks (only 11 minutes total non-riding time). I wanted to make sure I got to enjoy Team Scream at full throttle, given how much others on this thread seemed to enjoy it. I was able to get through the first three at 100%, while Half is Easy started that way … but ended at 90%. I don’t recall my legs feeling this much pain in a long time. But all worth it for a chance at something Suf related.

I didn’t make it today. Got through the first three and then Team Scream was really hard. I was doing them back to back to back to back. And I could have turned off ERG mode and pedaled it out, but I don’t consider that actually doing the workout so the challenge was just more than I could handle on this day. I spent most of this season doing sweet spot to train for Leadville so all of the short hard intervals in the second and third workouts really kicked my butt. Fun challenge though!

I did them all at 85%. I didn’t think I was is good enough shape to get through them all on 85%, but I did it and felt pretty good. Half is Easy was definitely a brute, tho.

Half is definitely not easy! :joy: GvA is so evil! :smiling_imp:

Done! But too hard for the off season for me…

Started 100%, but then you can see the jump down in the first block of The Model where I dialled it down to 80%. Same again for the second block of Half is Easy…

Well played, Mike, well played…

Edit: oh yes, and having done four rides back to back for the first time ever, I now have MASSIVE RESPECT for those crazy Knights of Sufferlandria.

All four done today. I was planning on doing them on Tuesday for my B-day but my wife reminded me that my blood donation was scheduled for that day, so that was out.

I managed to get through the first three at 100%. Hit Team Scream and I knew it was never going to happen. Did the warm up at 100%, dialed it back to 90% for the start of the effort but was fading fast, so down to 80%. I was feeling a bit better so with about 15 minutes left I moved it up to 85%.

I am in serious need of some rest!

I’ve yet to start mine but some Suffer selfies from those that are doing it or have done it already would be very motivating :innocent:

You guys are amazing!
I barely survived the model yesterday…I can’t even imagine doing the other 3 in the same session…
Chapeau

Sir Glen, really. No problem though, here is the schedule, understanding that as a Knight, all will be done in the same day. If done in the first week of the month, at least one must be at 100%. If the second week, 2 must be at 100% (this ends tomorrow). Week three and at least 3 must be at 100%. Or if done in week 4 of Nov, all 4 must be done at 100%. So take your time, we know you will get it done! :+1:
