I’ve started with indoor training withing the last six weeks.
After reading just about everything there was to read on the subject, then fighting my way through the lack of stock of just about every conceivable trainer during the mid-summer, I settled on a Kickr Core.
Perfectly happy with it. Didn’t see the need to go to the “full” Kickr for my needs and, aside from the price and ultimate availability, the secondary deciding factor of going Wahoo is that I wanted the compatibility to ultimately pick up a Climb unit… which I did only two weeks later.
Love the pair. As someone who is a natural outdoor person and has never indoor cycled previously, the Climb has “completed” the experience for me (until I get a rocker plate in place too) and I’m loving both.
Anybody using a STAC ZERO? It was my entry into the SmartTrainer experience. It has been 3 years now and the Sufferfest workouts are still kicking my butt. Will upgrade sometime but for now the ZERO still is the backbone of my bucket inducing wattage cottage.
@HoneeG I had a Stac Zero Power that I upgraded to a Halcyon. My new through-axle Trek did not fit on it. I opted to replace it rather than buy a custom axle.
@fairushariri, what was the problem with your 1st unit?
My unit got noisy after 18 months. Wahoo suggested replacing it with a refurb one.
However, I moved from the US to Brazil and I would have to pay for shipments, almost the price of a new unit in the US.
Fortunately, I managed to service it locally, myself. It was a really bad bearing causing the noise, now replaced with a superior quality one.
I’m a personal trainer who specializes in older adults and people with conditions like Parkinson’s. Cycling, dancing, and boxing(!) are all good for Parkinson’s. I hope your Mum has success with this, and I’m really happy to see how supportive you are: love and care go a long way.
Hi Alvaro, not sure what was it I just sent the video out to the dealer and they agreed to replace. Not sure if it was new or refurbished unit though but I could register it online via app. Sorry couldn’t help much!
How do you use computrainer and sufferfest app? Does the NPE ANT Bluetooth bridge work ?
@Barndog70, we don’t support Computrainer as a smart trainer. You can set it up for virtual watts though: https://support.thesufferfest.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015030500-Compatible-Trainers-for-Virtual-Watts#computrainer

Using Saris H3, it is amazing for erg mode, did the cure tonight and it handled the 20/10s perfectly, this can’t be said of any elite trainer I’ve had which I found uselessly slow in erg.
For the past 2 years I’ve been using a $20 second-hand Travel Trac 2000 dumb trainer that’s at least 6 years old. Probably closer to 8 or more. I was looking to save up for a power meter to pair with it, but I was worried it was going to go out, soon. Then last month, while researching the lowest priced power meters and decent replacement dumb trainers, I was gifted a Kickr Core. My pain cave is just a pain “nook” that covers about 12sq ft (6’x2’) in the middle of the garage with my phone propped up next to me as my “tv screen” during my workouts. I used to have it on a phone mount on my handlebars, but I would sweat all over it and that would make my screen react and pause or change my workouts. I’m in Las Vegas, so in the summer I have to workout first thing in the morning (i.e. starting around 4:30am) otherwise it’s too hot in the garage - often hotter than it is outside. But I don’t have anywhere inside to ride. So, in the summer I roast. In the winter I freeze. All in my tiny garage nook.
(I was only able to take this pic because our vehicle was fortuitously in the driveway)

Elite Suito.
The paincave isn’t really that. It’s a small side room we use as a workshop/library where my trainer mat just about fits in. There’s a small cabinet in front of the bike where the iPad stands.
That issue with the bearings might be a widespread one. I’m on the second replacement unit of a Kickr (third unit I try in less than a year) and I still can feel a rolling resistance when speeding up (along with a sound like friction).
Wahoo’s sales support is awesome, but I can’t afford being without my trainer for 2 weeks every 4 months…
Would you mind sharing what the replacement consisted of? Thank you!
I have just replaced the two bearings which go on the flywheel shaft.
I employed SFK sealed bearings to replace them. I found a person mentioning the 17x35x10mm - DIN6003 2RSH part (from SFK), but I didn’t keep the box where the bearings came from in order to confirm.
Actually, I just went to a store with the old bearings and asked for SKF bearings that would match the original ones, they have no special dimensions.
Just to let you know, my unit is out of use now due to a problem with the processor of the main board (no speed/power signal), after a lightning bolt close to my house. Wahoo does not ship the electronic board and asked me to send the unit back to the US. I estimated the cost and it can reach more than 600 USD.
I will have to wait till my next trip to the US to have the trainer with me. I already started to look for a new smart trainer, but one that gets service locally in Brazil.
Best
Alvaro
Sorry to hear that, Alvaro. Thanks again for your help and I really hope you get a working trainer soon.
Best regards.
It wasn’t cheap, but I think that is worth the money & is used most days. I would buy another one.
PS Garage doesn’t look as tidy these days
.
Just do it! You’ll never regret it. Best purchase I’ve made in the last 5+ years
