ANNOUNCING: The New Sufferlandrian Flag & Coat of Arms

The personal presumptions are fully inappropriate to the conversation and I’d ask that you refrain.
Likewise, personal advice was not requested, but…

A lot of people descended from the German Empire. Not all of them are German now. A lot died in that war who were not German. I get the German discomfort entilrey. Did I not make that perfectly clear? Is it trolling to point out the broader history? I mean there’s a whole thread on this flag, and it’s wrong for someone to mention where the flag came from? That must imply an agenda? Right, I’m not modern-day German so it’s almost like I’m victim bashing now? Oh wait. No. (although truthfully there were of course victims everywhere). But of course none of that is the point. The point now is who is uncomfortable with the flag. I don’t think anyone owns that, certainly not Germans.

Sorry what was I thinking. I should stick to simplistic virtue signaling like you are doing in your response to me(since we’re going there) and anything else beyond that is clearly just me being a bad person.

any more questions?
thank you

I did point out exactly that it’s been commandeered by Neo Nazis did I not?

quoting me:

And the link claims it was adopted by Neo Nazis, so that may be the biggest impact on modern distaste, and unerstandably.

Any more questions? Thank you. (◔_◔)

Seriously though, It’s actually too bad about all the snark and accusations (which I just don’t get) because it is all great information, including the perspective from present-day Germans and yes, the headlines too. I had no intention to discount IsiSchneider_KoS’s perspective in the slightest.

I think some of the “snark” is because you’ve brought up a thread from 2 years ago, with the rationale for the change clearly provided by the OP at the top of his thread, supported and lauded (as well as challenged) by several others, and, with several Germans expressing their gratitude for the change.

It comes off, in text anyway, as disingenuous when you say that

Why bring it up then if you aren’t looking to argue or incite a reaction? When people say “something something but” I have a hard time escaping that the “something something” isn’t their original intent. Eg. I’m not one to criticize however (insert criticism). I love this guy but (insert reason to dislike him) etc. Then, when people react to, or comment on your post, which I think is to be expected, you “just don’t get” their reactions.

Seriously? Ok. Think whatever you wish. Amazing. I said what I said, and the reason people imagine for me saying it, are not my problem, regardless how many imagine it. They are false and they are imagined. Period. Not on me. What kind of reaction are you acusing me of trying to get? You think I’m some kind of Neo Nazi sympathizer? You’re accusing me of that from this? If not then what is it exactly you think? Don’t answer. I don’t care.

Summarizing. What you have said is you will choose to assume the worst when you are unable to understand someone else’s mind. And it’s not an uncommon stance in public discourse now, but it is quite sad and toxic.

Please, @Still_D, give it a rest…

I avoid Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. because of this exact type of unproductive discourse. We are here to talk about training and support each other through our efforts to get fitter. Getting into an argument about what a symbol should or shouldn’t mean, and who should and shouldn’t be offended by it is not why I, or the vast majority of Sufferlandrians come here.

We get it, you don’t agree with changing the flag. The End.

Hey guys, it’s cool to have different opinions and I get this can be quite an emotive topic, but just a reminder to keep things civil.

I think given this is a pretty old thread I’ll close it for now.
