I’m trying to work up a training plan to prep for a race and the SYSTM plans that are generated for me include a lot of NoVid workouts, which are the least motivational for me. Is there a nifty way to find an alternative, but equivalent and in keeping with the [plan], workout with something to watch/motivate, e.g. Sufferfest, ProRides, Inspiration, OnLocation? Thanks.
IDK the answer to your question specifically, but I play other Youtube cycling vids for NoVid workouts or workouts where I’ve already seen the included vid. In the app on my computer there is a pop up button on the top right that looks like an old Polaroid frame. Tap that and everything goes away except the data bar and graph which will stay on top of anything else. You can drag it around the screen. You can go to the workout settings and turn off the audio if appropriate.
(Most) all workouts have a “type” in the title (racing, climbing, mixed, etc.) If you go into the library, you can filter for cycling workouts by type and duration (or TSS or IF or 4dp focus) to find various vids that would approximate the no-vid you’re not wanting to do.
Same, though I use GCN+, which I consider a great value for the $$$. They have their own “inspiration” category of films, plus live and recorded race footage. And in the race footage you typically have the option of the full video, or long and short highlight vids.
Unfortunately this is a computer-only feature at present. Wish SYSTM would port this for iOS so I could float it over video on my iPad as well. (HINT @David.McQuillen.KoS)…
I had similarly suggested this in the Feature Request category a couple weeks ago. Biking any kind of intervals while staring at a blank black screen is kinda brutal.

@Rupert you couldn’t have posted this BEFORE I put in all that work?
Thanks! I’ve read about this technique before, but like Cpt_A I run IOS (apple TV) and that technique isn’t too friendly.
Thanks so much. I saw this as an option, and eventually I’d get pretty familiar with the cross reference. I think this would get me pretty close…
Bingo! That’s what I was hoping for. Thanks Coach Rupert…
Combine this chart with some fishing around like Cpt_A suggests will do the trick for me. Maybe make this cross reference chart more public. Thanks everyone.
Coach. If you can go a step further and include any ProRides, Inspiration, or OnLocation that fit too, that would be great. But the Suf alone is a huge help.
In a post in a different thread I described my first encounter with a no-vid workout as “rude”. I kinda figured workouts with vids is largely what I’m paying for. In that thread it was pointed out by others how to use the data overlay so I now have a bunch of links to suitable YouTube vids saved that I can call upon when a no-vid comes up in a training plan.
Yeah, the data overlay seems like a good method if using a Windows or Mac computer, but SYSTM doesn’t have that option on iPad, so that’s what my feature request was for.
Some have suggested an interim workaround of loading SYSTM on a phone while watching cycling videos on the iPad, but increasing the SYSTM display settings to the largest font size on my phone is still to small to read comfortably from the bike.
This is what I do, and same. Either I put my phone next to the iPad and can’t really see the #'s, or I put it on my stem mount, then can’t READ the #'s.
Brilliant resource to swap the work outs, but don’t be too quick to swap. The No Vid workouts contain some really great instructions and advice. I generally do the same as @CPT_A and run GCN race footage/videos.
Noted!
Good advice @TTDragon. I do some of the NoVid workouts, I just find a ‘paired’ video workout so much more immersive and enjoyable.
Wondering / Hoping if this list was created as part of the move towards a “Take this workout outide” feature?
