Full Frontal (FF) rider type Rouleur

Thanks Steve for your investigations on that. Highly appreciate it.

Thanks Joshua, I will give it a try :+1:

Just an fyi based on Steve’s previous comment to be cautious of apps that check your ftp without test, i have no clue how Garmin calculates your ftp but Xert and Intervals.icu both use your ride data based on your most recent max effort from 3-20minutes in length to calculate your ftp. (In other words they need you to test yourself.)

So Xert and Intervals.icu both need a “test” of some kind from you. It just doesn’t have to be a formal ftp test. And they will pull historic ride data to calculate. I prefer to use the Half Monty because it also calculates my threshold HR.

I have found the Intervals.icu and Xert data to be extremely accurate in accordance with my Half Monty and Full Frontal test results. And they both work with Systm workouts without conflict.

That said TrainerRoad has been awful detecting my ftp. I’ve tried TR twice and both times AI FTP Detection labeled my ftp low by 10-20 watts. The second time it’ll read my actual ftp. I believe its just a gimmick to make people signup and commit to a TR plan so they could hook you into the system… personally. And i also don’t think AI FTP detection is what should sell the platform. It’s adaptive training (which Xert is in Beta for right now.)

Remember ftp varies daily from 1-5 points.

You make a critical point here. Regardless of what app you use, formal or informal, at some point you need to really test yourself if you want to find out your ftp. I couldn’t agree more.

Funny because I think about this all the time. I’m naturally a sprinter, FF has me at attacker, and Zwift has me as an all rounder. I’m D category with an FTP oh 243 watts and I’m 93kg.

I do all race type each week. ITT, TTT, crit, and scratch races in Zwift. In the beginning I was terrible at all of the above but the more I did them and training plans the more “well rounded” I became.

Fast forward a year and I’m sitting on top in the podiums often. Over the last month, lowest I have placed is 2nd :eyes:. I’m blown away, I can hit sprints, I can hit punchy climbs, and I can ride long races….I attribute this to doing the different style race format every week, training, and racing with faster riders some times.

I would say I could fall into the “rouleur” category and my weakness is definitely “not a pure climber” at all. So no, i personally think the rouluear is jack of all trades….someone who can do it all.

Well put. Sounds like you’re a “glass is half full” not “glass is half empty” kind of person.

funny - according to Dr. Coggan chart I’m totally untrained  That takes a lot of pressure off me, because there’s really only one way to go and that’s up…
