Full Frontal On Kickr Bike Shift

I generally enjoy using my Shift and particularly like the fact that it takes up less space than a bike on a turbo trainer, but the one time I tried FF on it was an abject failure. This was due to the horrible “feel” of gear changes on the Shift - shifting to a harder gear feels like hitting a wall and disrupts rhythm terribly, which we all know is bad news during the MAP and FTP efforts.

It’s got to that time of year when riding outside after work is not really an option and, if I am going to re-subscribe to Systm, doing an initial FF to calibrate everything would be desirable. Any other Shift owners have any advice? Thanks.

I have the Bike Shift and understand what you mean. I have similar issues with hard NM routines like Bavaria: Burgberg. I hated my FF attempt as well, but maybe not sure if for the same reasons as yours.

Be that as it may, my work-around for that issue is to spin up before the upward gear change happens. Not sure if that counts as “cheating” but winding up to about 110-20rpm makes it a lot easier to deal with the sudden change in resistance. Hitting those hot-pink walls at anything less than 100rpm (for me, at 59kg thats anything >500w) is a guaranteed quad-cracker.
