Kickr Bike Button Support on SYSTM

Dear folks,

I find it quite sad, that my Kickr Bike Shift has all those features with it’s buttons in Zwift but there are non on the SYSTM app I love. Would be so amazing to be able to control training intensity (percentage, usually controled with arrow up/down on keyboard), and also ERG-Mode vs. Static resistance modes.

Can’t be too hard to implement and would be a big upgrade, so I don’t have to touch my keyboard with my saltmonster claws

Thanks!

Please send this note to Wahoo support. It’s highly unlikely that they’ll see it here.

Why is there a feature requests section, when noone from Wahoos staff is looking?!?

Such a GREAT question! The short answer is that the forum is a community forum and as such the best place to be certain requests or issues are actually seen by The Company staff is to send it to them directly.

The longer answer is that the forum itself was started by the folks who created The Sufferfest (prior to The Acquisition) and was a place to discuss all things SUF related including the SUF app etc. Back then, there was SIGNIFICANT company and community engagement.

After The Acquisition, The Company changed the forum name, but kept the forum structure even though it doesn’t make any sense from a Wahoo perspective to do so. It has become the forum for all things Wahoo and as such could use a significant overhaul to it’s structure but, as it is for now and for the past 2 to 3 years they’ve just become increasingly disengaged. They’re basically ghosting their own community :man_shrugging:

Your issue with Kickr Bike buttons is a long standing one and the more The Company hears directly from people like you the greater the possibility of something being done about it. FWIW, it completely perplexes me why they wouldn’t have given some priority to this ages ago. Back when the SYSTM app was the SUF app, the Bike buttons worked to do just as you said, but when they changed it to SYSTM, something in the coding must have broken and they’ve just never fixed it. If I spent the money you spent on a Kickr Bike, I’d be pretty angry that The Company’s own app, SYSTM, doesn’t fully support their own flagship trainer bike.

So, if you’re still reading this, it might be worth sending your second question to them directly too.

Lastly, that’s a fantastic bit of kit you’ve got there. Colour me jealous!

I have let Wahoo know - through the link you kindly provided my dear Sir - of my additional idea to control Window’s media player buttons as most keyboards do though the Shift’s buttons. Would be blessing for us easily bored types watching Netflix during those NoVid sessions.

Are you talking about controlling SYSTM workouts using keyboard shortcuts? If so, there is some of that:

No, I meant to control the media player of Windows through the buttons on the Kickr Shift. To that end they could emulate the respective keyboard buttons to do that quite simply, I guess.

I’d be pretty surprised if they’d ever plan any work at all to have the Bike buttons do anything with non-fitness based apps especially since they still haven’t gotten them to do the basic stuff with SYSTM.

Good luck though! I guess it never hurts to make the request :crossed_fingers:t3:

I agree that it is unlikely to be implemented any time soon. The app works, but needs soooo much work to become great … e.g. new video player to make it really cross platform, training recommendations, more flexibility to e.g. take regard for sickness or any training you do outside the app. Currently, I use the functions of my Garmin watch to keep the training load under control

100%!! the SYSTM app needs some love. I’m personally really hoping that this is the year it gets it. For context though, they just came out with a fantastic rechargeable HRM, their 3rd gen bike computers (Ace, ROAM and BOLT), a head-to-head (and imho, better) competitor to the Varia Radar with their Trackr Radar, and a game changing treadmill for runners. So, my biggest hope is that they turn their attention to SYSTM now and start ramping up the improvements to it, so they can, like you said, make it truly GREAT!

Fingers crossed for that but probably the software side of the head units needs further work before they get to the app. Also, their last map update happened ages ago. At least it feels like ages ago. I again agree with you that Wahoo are the best around - that’s why we all are here, right - but they have a lot of room still to improve.

IMHO, they should totally be able to do both.

We our, our amazing Dame Ellisa passed this along to the Product team this morning.

*sort of…they worked in the iOS app only  We reused the single workout player from SUF in SYS when it was rebuilt where the old iOS app had it’s own player.

This work is on our roadmap for the new Wahoo app PLAYR, which some of you know we hope to some day port back to SYSTM but have had issues even trying that in our internal testing. Our approach will be to map hardware buttons to keystrokes that they get passed to the app which opens us up to far more potential hardware integrations and even other app integrations.

Nice! I’ve never personally had the Kickr Bike. It’s just another bit of kit I covet. I just recall folks saying that the buttons used to be able to control some basic SYSTM functions and presumed it was not just iOS. @moose could probably say more about it cuz I’m pretty sure he was the one lamenting the loss of functionality of the Bike Buttons.

Yeah, @moose definitely always wanted it back :face_with_peeking_eye:

Some said “buttons”?
Yes, buttons used to be able to control ride mode (ERG/LEVEL) and when in ERG, intensity. That was super useful.
