Kickr Climb and Zwift ERG workouts

Hi all
Newbie to the forum here.
Will the Kickr Climb work with Zwift event ERG workouts?
Thanks
Peter

Is there any difference between an event ERG workout and any other ERG workout?

If not then no, I do not believe it does. Or at least it never used to. In order for the Climb to replicate gradient, you need to NOT be in a Zwift Erg workout.

That said, there are plenty (in fact MOST) ERG video workouts in SYSTM where the Climb is engaged. Eg All the On Location vids, All the Pro Rides, All the A Week With…series, and many of The Sufferfest vids.

Happy to help, @Waxi and welcome to the forums. Having the Climb is awesome!! Makes riding in Zwift much more engaging for me. Goes up when the road goes up and down when the road goes down (best to set Zwift trainer difficulty setting to 100% to experience the thrill of climbing).

But, it’s also one of the reasons I absolutely HATED doing ERG workouts on Zwift. My efforts never really matched the terrain and I found it mind numbingly boring.

Check back in anytime if you have any questions about the Climb or SYSTM.

PS is your name really Waxman? Or, are you just a proponent of wax over oil?

I was born with it!

I asked cuz there’s a badass Knight of Sufferlandria, Sir Dustin Lenz, and I was sure he was a photographer but nope. :man_shrugging:t3:

Does this mean you don’t wax? Cuz…you probably should :joy:

Hi Glen

Given that Wahoo and Zwift are now one company, are there any plans to roll out Zwift integration for the Climb?

They’re not one company. They have a partnership and work together.

Zwift is already integrated for the Climb. You can ride any route, road, world in Zwift and the Climb will react accordingly.

What it won’t do, is implement gradient changes during Zwift ERG workouts but that is because Zwift doesn’t send the gradient changes to your trainer during ERG workouts. I suppose they could but I imagine that would take a lot of developer resources and time but again, that’s up to Zwift. The Climb responds to the gradient change message sent to your trainer. That’s why the ERG workouts in SYSTM are able to leverage the gradient changes. Wahoo has coded them in.

It would pretty cool though if Zwift did implement that for their ERG workouts. As it is, I just can’t bring myself to do the Zwift ERG workouts so I do them where the Climb is engaged.

Many thanks for the explanation Glen.

All good. FWIW, Zwifters have been asking for this for years and Zwift’s response is that ERG workouts are not designed that way. What you could do, is do the workouts in level or slope mode and use your gears to manage your effort. The problem with that would be if you were going up Alpe du Zwift and the interval called for easy spinning, you’d be SOOL :joy:

Zwift says their ERG workouts are intended to replicate a flat course.

Here’s the simple: Ride a course as Zwift designed and you get the ups and downs of the course. Ride the same course in in ERG mode, and it’s flat as a pancake. They don’t want to mix them as ithe former are part of the game and the latter are part of training. At least that’s how the Zwift team sees it. Even there own workouts end up doing this.

Thanks all.
