This is where Discord shines! I do TTTs twice a week and we communicate like we were on race radio. Even if someone snaps the band you can regroup and try to get back on.
DER RITTERITT
So the Knight Scream TTT was a fun change-of-pace, with much suffering had by all. Will certainly be revisiting the concept down the road (with Sir Ruben @Medina81’s “encouragement” )…
Looking back through my training logs, I realized this was the first time - a few years back - that I rode a @michael.cotty video in Systm. So for this week we’re going to change things up in honor of Sir Mike, a.k.a. Sir Standsalot, with a ride that would be near-and-dear to his heart.
Achterbahn | Innsbruck
The Achterbahn route is the toughest (by far) challenge on Zwift’s Innsbruck server. Tackles the Lutscher KOM in both directions, with a couple of sprints through the city to shake your legs out.
(Not coincidentally, this follows almost the exact route of the 1998 Tour of Innsbruck that I raced in for a local amateur club, where I got to hang onto the wheels of Team Deutsche Telekom for about 1.5km during their Giro prep, before they unceremoniously spat me out the back when we hit the climb to Brenner Pass ).
I’ve yet to get around to this ride in Zwift, so am looking forward to it. Hope to see you there!

Looking for glory. The Luescher rides take you up the KOM TWICE! This will be an interesting repeat…
Nice flex Massachusetts!
Edit: in all seriousness, Cap’n Sir, that’s pretty cool!
It’s a fun(ny) story, but mainly it was a VERY humbling experience.
I’ve signed up for the ride! like that these KoS rides encourage me to do a few of the Zwift routes that I’ve not had the desire to ride on my own yet…
Rob
Oh, Sir Ruben @Medina81…
Guess you had to be there.
Great ride this morning in (and over) Innsbruck! 22 sign-ups for the week, though only 12 started out - a lively bunch, nonetheless! 1h57 for 29.9 miles, with two ascents of the Lutscher climb at +/- 990m, with a couple of sprints through town. Lots of solid efforts.
Thanks all for coming out, hope to see everyone next weekend for a (pre) holiday special!
I tried to jump in without a subscription, but apparently Zwift has caught on and I used up my 25km last week. I appeared at the start line, but was invisible. And when the ride started I just sat there pedaling but not moving. I left and came back in for 10 seconds of pedal assist, but once that ended my avatar stopped moving and the jig was up.
That was too bad because Innsbruck and Lutscher is one of my fav.
Glad to see all the participation!
Guess I’ll be joining in again in January…
I was up, just not up to riding at the time. I’ve actually re-subbed to Zwift. I’ll go a month at a time. I actually enjoyed the little Baseline Camp thing and think I’ll do the Tour de Zwift to prep for The Wallawallabingbang Tour.
I was subscribed to Zwift after my free 3 months ended, but then cancelled in May and switched to IndieVelo which was $5/month cheaper for the founders club. Now that IV is TPV I have a free year so I’m enjoying being subscription free for a while. Plus with my med issues I’m not exactly riding that much either. If I can get healthy I may re-up with Z for a couple months for the Spring knight rides.
It was a fun ride. Making Sir Ruben chase us all the way to the top of the mountain was a thing of beauty…fire coming from his nostrils etc…(and his power graph is impressive!).
I enjoyed that someone was always ready to challenge the sprints and KOMs. That is where the gains are made.
A couple of things I learned: 1) check the virtual Kickr bike before starting. Mine had defaulted back to a Shimano compact with a low gear of 34/28. I was grinding 65 rpm and blowing up on the first climb. 2) if you leave the Zwift screen it will continue to run but you are no longer rubberbanded, even if you are on coffee break (when I changed my gearing to a more tolerable 33-33 low gear). 3) riding hard after a leg day doing 275lb (125kg) 5x5 deadlifts is not fun.
So my suggestion for next week as a lowly citizen amongst the Knights of Sufferlandria is two laps of Casse Pattes (leg breakers) in France. The route is 23km (14.3 mi) x2 so 46km (28.6 mi) + a short lead in. There is 155m (509 ft) of climbing per lap, including 2 KOMs. There are also 2 sprints per laps. I estimate it to be a 75-90 minute ride so those doing an interval workout in the background should have plenty of time to get it in. It also shouldn’t burn out anyone who is doing another ride that day. If not, I’m open to other ideas.
Attention sprinters! Feeling neglected? Sick of morale-sucking time trials and mind-numbing, endless mountain ascents? I have good news! This week’s Knight Ride is for you. SPRINTAPALOOZA!
60.8km
483m elevation
6…count 'em…SIX sprint jerseys up for grabs!
Hope you can join us for this pre-Christmas ride. Start front-loading your calorie burn for the holidays! (Totally a joke - please don’t fall into the mindset of “earning” your calories…unless that works for you in a healthy way! )

[Standard reminder that this is a banded ride, so we can keep together as a group. So long as you keep pedaling (stay above 10W) and/or stay withing 30m off the back of the group (apparently the magic distance), you’ll stay with us!]
Stumbled on this one while poking around as well. 24 HOURS?!?
You had me at Sprinters.
I know, right?
Wow! That’s nearly unbelievable
EDIT
I’m dubbing Sir Ruben @Medina81 as honorary sweeper this week, for his heroic chase up the Lutscher climb last weekend.
Remember…you’ll be sprinting with a band. Kinda like…well, sprinting through molasses. I.e. my normal sprint ability.
@SirIan would it be possible to get an SUF club jersey in Zwift? Is that still in the works? (Preferably not a Knighthood specific one, as the main club is open to all).
