Last Chance to See: Some Inspiration Films

Understood. To each his/her own.

The badges!! No one has mentioned the badges. I’m assuming when the new videos are added we’ll lose our inspiration badges??

That’s actually a good thing though. Another target to aim for!!!

Ps. I might also point out no one has mentioned the badger!! :badger: That would be a great topic for an inspiration video!!!

I don’t think you lose a badge that you’ve completed when new workouts are added to it. But you’ll know that you need to go in and do all of the new workouts!

Wahoo Systm / Sufferfest,

What will happen if one of the videos is scheduled in your training plan is deleted by the time you get to theweek its schedule? Will a new video be added to replace it in the scheduled training plan of will you have to find something to replace it that is similar?? Any info would be helpful

Thanks

I don’t think the plans update dynamically after you’ve added it to your calendar. So even if it gets adjusted in the plan template on the Wahoo side, you’ll still have the deleted workout your plan. So I believe you will have to find a similar workout to replace it. The good thing is that most of these Inspiration workouts are either recovery or Z2 rides, so you can pick an existing workout that is similar duration and you should be getting a similar workout profile.

It would be nice to see more XC - MTB races. Right now there has been some footage of movies that are mtb/downhill but not that much mtb stuff, only road races.

Is there any possibility to upload videos from our local play grounds say from Sweden, Finland or whatever country to inspire others with the play grounds and tracks that we have and also attach the strava fit file to create a workout based on everyones FTP… i would love to see more of that and could of course contribute with video/fit-file?

Looking at my track record for the inspiration videos: I generally only ride the short ones.

For new inspiration videos, I’m hoping for more short ones. Preferably like the Earth Cycle or the Veni Bici Suchi series. I’m happy for longer videos to be cut into several smaller ones.

I would like more longer ones that have the same recovery effort level as the short ones. Most of the hour long ones are Zone 2 with a few more than Zone 2 (like making an hour record, etc). Would like some good 60 minute Zone 1 videos, too.

Cheers, I managed it! Seems I’m as motivated by a deadline as much now as I ever was back in school/uni days. Cutting it close to the deadline is a must.

Thursday Fields is an exceptional watch but I also really enjoyed the Dogs Life series. Seeing what goes into these short 4min viral videos was fascinating and the end product … well WOW!!

Now for the Feb deadline videos … although probably not until closer to the cut off

By the way, there’s also a Thereabouts 3 (filmed in Colombia), for whoever enjoyed the Thereabouts/Outskirts series. You can find it on Youtube (along with some of the other movies).

I’ve just finished off Thereabouts 2, as a triathlon fan I enjoyed the addition of Wurf in his younger days … as mad as ever!

I’ll definitely give Thereabouts 3 a watch on youtube, in fact I’ll probably watch the Outskirts series on there as I doubt I’ll see them before the end of Feb cutoff.

Not enough zone2 rides planned and I’ve still got “Aspirations of the Pamirs” and “A Thin White Line” to tick off !!!

I really enjoyed “Tour of Ara” as my final watch of the departing videos. As an avid traveller and lover of cycling this adventure was the perfect combo. Disappointed to see it’s ended in reality!

Are we getting any new inspiration videos to replace the departed selection or has the space already been utilised for new on location and sufferfest additions??

Could you elaborate on that? What app are you using to play your videos?

Whatever you want. Youtube, Netflix, Prime, Disney+, random mp4 player on my Windows machine.

@Sir_Brian_M In the case I mentioned in my comments on Jan 19, I’m not using any apps during the ride. What I do is create a route on Strava (or Garmin Connect, but I prefer Strava’s route creator on the laptop, and then it auto-syncs the route to GC anyway.) Then in GC, I sync the ride to my device(s)
Generally use the Edge 830, but can use the Fenix 6 if desired. The EDGE device is handier because it has a bigger screen and I can see the map and control it pretty well to know where I am on a ride.
Then I just start a ride on the KICKR Bike in the INDOOR activity profile, connected to the KICKR to control it, and before starting the ride, go to NAVIGATION/Courses/SavedCourses. Select the desired course and choose RIDE.
I have the EDGE mounted on the center of the handlebar so I can see what I’m riding.
I have the laptop right in front of me on the KICKR Desk (an excellent companion to the KICKR, in my opinion. I haven’t regretted getting that at the same time as the KICKR Bike. It’s so handy to roll forward out of the way if needed, and back close when I want that too.)

On my laptop, I’ve got a 2TB secondary SDD (still not enough space, I have 2 external drives with another 1.5TB of video, and growing) dedicated to Videos of many rides, taken on a chest-strap mounted GoPro that I ride with basically every ride, but occasionally forget to bring.
The GoPro was purchased as much for potential evidence in case of incidents as anything else, but the videos really are nice to have to use with the KICKR. I delete most videos of rides as soon as I’m finished, but I’ve built up a nice library of many roads I ride in the area, as well as some from vacation rides in other places.

I choose a folder of videos from any ride and then use a course created for that same ride (OR just parts of the ride; however much I want to use.) I cue the video up to wherever I can ID the location well enough to start the video playing again when I reach that point on the EDGE, watching the map of the EDGE as I ride it, with it controlling the KICKR. The EDGE map will move along as you pedal and you can use the elevation screen if desired to also see what terrain changes are behind and ahead, and the KICKR Bike will be following the grade changes. (IF you remember to UNLOCK the tilt feature! I STILL wish it would remember a setting and KEEP it unlocked if desired, but I’m getting better at remembering to UNLock it every ride.)

The upside of this all is that it is AMAZINGLY realistic to follow real video of real places I’ve ridden and be able to stay FAIRLY WELL in sync with the terrain and what the KICKR Bike is doing for tilt and resistance. I’ve done some rides that my pace was PERFECT with the video, but I’ve certainly done some that I just could NOT keep up with it. I’ve lost some notable power in the last 1/2 year and am fighting to get it back, but it sure makes it harder to stay perfectly in sync with the video.

But part of that is just the reality that the KICKR Bike, like most (or all?) other trainers don’t seem to equal the speed one can do with the same perceived effort outdoors. I’ve seen that to be true almost always. Even when I’ve managed to stay in perfect sync, I actually FELT like I was riding VERY HARD to keep with the pace I was riding on the video.
That’s not all bad, because it does encourage you to push a little more as you sense yourself slipping off the pace, but it isn’t so manageable if you’re wanting to do a zone 2 ride!

I’m in Virginia in the U.S.A, where I’ve been for almost 40 years, but I’ll ALWAYS be a NH native, and vacation rides there are such a treat. So I turned 65 last month and had decided well in advance that I’d ride NH roads at some point in my birthday month. Did that last week, using the methods above, and it was FABULOUS to ride those roads in February and enjoy warm summer foliage and awesome mountain and lakes views near my hometown as I rode! The terrain was a great mix of ups and downs, with some very steep hills that took the KICKR Bike through a wide range of tilt angles. Got me pumped up to think about another vacation to NH and coastal Maine and some more video for the KICKR Bike!

One other thing, I use the Movies and TV app in Windows to play these. It has a very handy 10seconds Back button and a 30seconds Forward button, which I use to resync myself to the video when I’m falling off the pace, or when the video has a bit of time that I stopped to take pics during the original ride, or whatever. It’s definitely a BEST experience when you can stay in sync to the terrain on the video, but it can still be very entertaining even when you’re not in sync, as long as the scenery is what you enjoy. A bit like when the SYSTM videos are NOT exactly displaying what matches the effort demanded in the workout; it’s far better when they match up, but still can be entertaining even when they don’t.
