Just finished the best Week With…
Watch out for motion sickness - BMX and MTB!!!
Loved meeting all those young hopefuls and hearing what the coaches had to say.
I’ll be doing this week again
Did the velodrome session today very nice format. Great to see Orla Walsh flying the flag for Ireland.
Looks forward to doing the rest of the series.
OK - hats off to the creators of this series! I think it’s FANTASTIC and has everything I look for in a ride (have always loved the unique Sufferfest rides that push you, but then have you resist a donut); sharing some highlights/feedback:
-unique (something new!)
-engaging (has the virtual feel of I’m a rider and included in the video/talk track)
-fun but pushes you (completed the women’s road ride this a.m. - and agreed, not a walk in the park!)
-well crafted content (I loved the road ride starting out with some great music and conversation warming up, but then went to ambient road noise / no music on the workout/climb… really nice balance!)
It even has the beauty of my wanting to come back to each of the unique rides to see/learn more about the other biking disciplines.
Oh - and some chance (a little more motivation) at some swag for completing them all… that’s just icing on the cake!
*Hopefully if I just complete them all on my own timeline I’m still entered (vs dropping the entire week onto my calendar as a series workout).
Overall - bravo team… THANK YOU for pulling this one together.
Please keep them coming (thinking about January already).
That’s a point? do they have to be done as a “week with” or can they be dotted around the month as separate workouts to qualify for the goodies
So happy to hear you’re enjoying the series! It was so fun to put together. For the prize draw you can finish the series in any order and all by the 23rd.
Sweet action! Thanks again for putting this together - love it.
Oh - a little tip for others… instead of selecting each one individually and dropping them onto the calendar, then going back, repeat, etc. (get a little clunky), I ended up dropping the whole series on my calendar which also numbers them nicely (if you add them one by one you don’t get the numbering 1 of 6, etc)… THEN I just rescheduled them to my liking.
Ride on all, cheers!
I’ve just done the AWWWCC: Road session - that is one hard session. I really enjoyed the steady build on the hill climb, and the encouragement from the riders and the coach helped a lot with motivation. As did riding on board with the riders during the effort. Hearing their effort made me feel like I wasn’t suffering alone!
This is a great series, and I can see myself coming back to these workouts regularly. I love seeing the opportunity that these riders are getting at the WCC; this is a great program and facility that the UCI are providing.
Yes, totally agree! Of all the AWW, this series has the most I feel like I would come back to revisit as a workout. I think having a bit of music in the some of the segments helped.
But one thing I didn’t really like with the Road one was the breathing of one of the riders maybe halfway through the final climb – it was so loud and really fast-paced, it actually distracted me from controlling my own breathing properly.
That was probably me…
Hit the Velodrome today…glad to hear at 62, that “I show promise in the future” I would say audio levels still need a bit of work at times it is uneven between the different speakers. It is a great session overall in a pretty short window was a good monday start to week. I always find it funny when you hit a rest interval the HR target goes immediately to Z1, I am generally lucky in these sessions to get it to Z2 before the next effort begins.
My track question though was why don’t they use Electric motorbikes?
They do have some there, but I didn’t see them being used. Not sure why. Maybe Craig likes the intimidating sound of that petrol motor.
And breathing in the fumes… doping? ha ha
How is everyone coming with getting through the sessions? Get them all done by 23 December, earn the badge and be in with a chance to win that awesome Santini UCI WCC jacket – normally only available to staff and athletes-in-residence. Speaking of prizes, here is what the water bottles look like – again, team-issue only!
Five down, just the MTB race left to go. Should be finished before the end of the week.
My original plan of mixing these in with the December challenge has fallen by the wayside - this AWW series is brilliant! December challenge can wait a few more days.
@JohnK Did Fursa today - it will be a good recovery workout for you after getting through AWWUCI.
I really loved this “week with”! I complete it yesterday morning, and really enjoyed the sessions.
For me, the hardest session was “Road” - not surprising given my “sustained effort” weakness. The most fun - by far - was Mountain Bike. It is SO immersive, with constant KICKR Climb gradient changes from -7% to +20% and first-person camera, that the time flies by. I almost stopped and clipped out on two occasions while riding!
I found the Velodrome and BMX sessions were a bit too easy for me - particularly with my Attacker profile - and would either add 10-15% effort on the AC segment or do the sessions in Level mode if I do them again.
Given how much fun (in a painful way) I had on the Mountain Bike video, I realize that I’d love to see a 60-90 minute mountain bike Pro Ride being produced.
Kudos to all involved in these AWW UCI workouts!
Rob
A mountain bike pro ride would be great. Fantastic idea.
Just got the Track done today. Road tomorrow etc.
If I was a bit more than half my age and built completely differently, I think I might have been a track sprinter in another life. LOVED it. Kinda dreading Road tomorrow especially after what @RServranckx just said but nothing’s gonna stop me getting this done!
Still got BMX and MTB to go … fitting these into my KOS prep plan (scheduled to storm on Christmas Eve) has been an added challenge but anything for the teeny tiny chance of free swag!
