This is a great advance and I look forward to it being usable with my Garmin Edge cycle computer.
Iām also curious to see how this will work with various power meter pedals. Iāve been using a Kickr during the indoor season since late 2020 and have noticed that each time that I have changed from indoor to outdoor cycling (or vice versa) that there is a significant difference in measured threshold power. For example, no more than a week after I did a Full Frontal test on the Kickr, I did a 20-minute threshold interval outside. Both Training Peaks and the Golden Cheetah app that I use to record outdoor rides estimated a threshold power about 10% higher than that determined in Full Frontal.
Iām aware of the articles discussing the differences between riding on a trainer and riding outside. But this seems like a significant gap and I suspect that this is at least partly due to differences between how the Kickr and my Favero Assioma Uno pedal are calibrated.
Iād be interested to hear from those who are now able to record indoor and outdoor rides in SYSTM about how the power measured by their trainer and their outdoor power meters compare.
On top of indoor/outdoor difference, I also train indoors on my TT bike but either race TT outside or ride my road bike outside. The different bikes also create a difference in FTP. To be honest I change my targets based on where or which bike I ride. You get a better feel of RPE and it helps on the outdoor interval because sometimes you push that bit extra on feel that you might not have go out if you just kept plugging along in ERG. Donāt get too bogged down by the numbers, theyāre super useful and important but itās not everything. Sometimes riding to HR and RPE and seeing what your power numbers where at the end can be really valuable too.
I listened to the podcast - fascinating stuff. Neal and Mac were very careful to not be too quantitative, but the gist seems to be that a 10% difference in FTP measured inside or outside is not unreasonable.
What about Garmin?
I have Garmin devices but cannot download workouts to them or automatically upload any other workouts. I have to mark things manually as completed even if session different.
Excellent library esp with RGT since amalgamating with Sufferfest and am trying training plan for first time (my coach had serious family disaster 2 years ago) but shame about focus only on wahoo hardware (I am AG triathlete).
@Pauline_Percy See Sir Davidās post at the beginning of this thread - āfurther down the road weāll open this up beyond Wahoo devices (our intention is not to be a closed ecosystem).ā
How long does it take for the completed ELEMNT rides to appear on the SYSTM calendar?
Today, I did part of the training program outside, and wanted to link the ride to the scheduled workout but the ROAM recorded ride is nowhere to be seen on the calendar. Itās been about an hour now. Given Strava synced the ride within seconds, same was expected from the SYSTM.
I know the completed rides sync eventually as the test ride from a week ago has appeared on the calendar, but I clearly wasnāt as impatient and have not timed how long it took the first time.
If you see it in the Element app it should eventually push via the cloud to SYSTM as long as the two apps have the same login. Try exiting and restarting SYSTM and if that doesnāt work reach out to the minions.
Pretty much sums up what Iāve tried already. Additionally, I signed out of SYSTM and back in, still nothing. Ride was there in ELEMNT companion app straight away.
Finally did my first session outside today so was very keen to see how it all ties in together with a training program and outside rides but clearly some minion has decided to hostage my ride data.
Bed time in the land of Down Under, so will check back in the morning. Thanks for the help so far.
Iāve found that it doesnāt always upload to the Wahoo Cloud quickly. Itās happened a few times now where Iāve had to go back, turn my Bolt back on, and then it eventually uploaded. Even before that it would appear in the ELEMNT app as well as on Strava, but not in the Wahoo Cloud (I checked using the separate Wahoo app). Only once it gets into the Wahoo Cloud does it show up in the SYSTM calendar.
Syncing from the Wahoo Cloud to your SYSTM calendar has been taken offline temporarily so there may be some delays in your outdoor workouts loading to your SYSTM calendar.
Thatās the word from the support, so problem should be widespread.
nice feature for outside workouts however I have been on garmin for a long time. perhaps there will be a manual add for the outside workouts from my garmin until you intergrate that. or from strava if the direct competition doesnāt allow it.
thanks
Hi, having read the thread Iām wandering if the Systm calendar is still offline? Iāve recorded an outdoor ride on my Elemnt Bolt which has recorded ok of the Elemnt companion app but still after 5 hours has not uploaded to the calendar. I have logged out/in on all apps but still no luck. Would appreciate feedback, thanks.
