Did this today for the first time, absolutely loved it. It doesn’t need music, it’s immersive enough. More of these would be great.
Good call - a few more to maybe make a ‘category’ of such workouts maybe. I wonder what it would be like if a MTB one was done or even CX.
If the image stabilization could cope that could be super cool. And I’d love to see the non-crit roadies’ (physical) reaction to that workout
Actually, no problem anymore. Damn impressive stuff being done with small sensors. Rock solid.
It’s a thumbs down from me too…
I don’t like to look at someone else’s back end.
The lack of SUF music makes it feel quite boring. (I put on my own Prog Trance mix after 5 mins)
Doing it at 100% even felt like there wasn’t much to be gained. (The last 30 secs were the only time I was pushed. YMMV)
Please don’t make this the future as there are other platforms out there doing this already. SUF, (for me) is all about structured, hard workouts, constantly pushing the limit. If I wanted to ride like this then I’d go outside.
Weirdly, I feel Team Scream is a fantastic workout. This one lacks something I can’t pin down.
Kudos for putting it all together and trying something new though!!
The next 2 stages are going to be brutal… absolutely no question.
I totally loved the water bottle prompts. Doing it as part of #tos Focus Option, I feel like doing it Level mode @100% would be more of a workout.
YES! I keep meaning to mention this, but forgetting. I love the water bottle prompts. In a video like this it’s hard to know when there will be a long enough pause to take a drink before the next target change. So, I made sure to take a drink every time I was prompted. I loved this little detail. It could definitely be used in more workouts, IMO.
It’s so interesting to read about all the mixed views on this one. Obviously there are some who love it, some who hate it, but the reasons for each differ.
I fell somewhere in the middle – it went relatively quickly because of the rapid changes, but having read SPOILER ALERT that winning was off the table, especially when DS said ‘now you’ve got a chance for the top 10’, I found it harder to get excited in the last half.
I would do this type of ride again as part of a prescribed training programme or another Tour, but probably wouldn’t seek it out on my own.
Not sure about mtb but CX would be AC start settling into MAP and then crikey knows how spikey the threshold bits would be with MAP.
Wasn’t sure what to expect with the format of this one but I was pleasantly surprised. Without music I feared it may be a bit of a drag, far from it though. I looked at the timer expecting it to read about 10minutes and realised I was already 20minutes in. Well done. Any chance of some more like this?
I’m in the “loved it” camp and don’t have much to say that hasn’t gone by already.
The only thing I’ll note is that my first-generation Kickr really struggled to keep up with the rapid changes. i had to grit my teeth through a few 300+ watt sections that lasted a little longer than I would have liked.
Well, well done.
Hello
I have just completed the Norway workout as part of day 5 of the ToS. I did the video at 100% using erg mode on my Suito Elite trainer against my 4DP profile and matched all of the power targets. (as attached screen dump shows) Apart from the last 30 seconds the video was very easy and I barley left zone 2 or broke a proper sweat. I could feel the resistance but it felt way too easy. All of the other Suffefest videos that I have done at 100@ are super hard and great workouts. Do you know what could of gone wrong here?
I think some perspective might be required to better understand this ride.
Consider it an “insight” into what Pro Racing is.
It’s not necessarily intent on obliterating you although coming into this ride fatigued with fresh 4DP numbers will make it more testing.
This is offering you the last 50 minutes of a 4 hour (175km) stage where the guy was in the breakaway for around 3h30 doing some serious work on the back end of a week of racing.
Definitely the highlight of the Tour.
Found myself leaning into all the corners due to being so focused on what was happening and being immersed.
Interesting to find my cadence is a lot higher without set targets.
I can imagine had this profile been released a few years ago, the storyline would have been you are in the peloton and have to drive it to catch the group before the climb, force the pace up the hill and then win the sprint for glory. That would have required a lot of different video feeds rather than just the one bike.
I enjoyed the session. It made me work and concentrate on my gear shifting, which wasn’t too bad really. I certainly had a good sweat on for the final sprint.
I thoroughly enjoyed the workout; thought the many changes in power made it difficult to follow the video (at times). First SUF video (that I have noticed) to integrate negative slope on my wahoo climb (thumbs up). I enjoy this and team scream, the humor in the traditional vids is great, but these immersive videos also have some fun built into them. The great thing about SUF is that there are a lot of vids with the humor and now with the immersive ones, there is more for everyone to enjoy. Keep the variation coming!
Well that was different. “Immersive” indeed! Really enjoyed being ‘in’ the race. The rapidly changing power requirements kept me on my toes. Impressions? Compared to other Suf videos I have sampled which were more ‘methodical’ this was more ‘freestyle’. I feel this was a pleasant break and a good workout however I feel the traditional Suf videos offer more specific training. Well done but this variety should not replace the format to date.
I love it! Best video I rode with my Kickr Bike. The simulation was very convincing. Oh, it was a great workout also.
Just finished Norway for the first time. As people have said, super immersive. The time flew by. I enjoyed just having the ambient sounds - it made it feel even more like riding outside. Congratulations to everyone who made this happen!
Looking forward to whatever you have up your sleeve next!
That was FREAKIN’ AWESOME! Loved it, I didn’t mind that my power was all over the place (dumb trainer/power meter)… not always knowing how the power would jump around made it interesting, I was just laser focused on the power targets. And while it was a bit tough to consistently hit the targets because they changed so quickly, it was definitely fun! My cadence was also ~10rpm higher than normal - avg. 94. I also didn’t mind that there wasn’t music/effects for the racing.
Can’t wait to see what the team comes up with next!
