The original Bolt, the new Bolt, the original Roam, the new Roam, and the original Elemnt. All of the bike computers support it. Rival, the watch, does not.
Thanks @thomas. I saw that thread, and makes sense. I guess my point (to Wahoo) is that itâd be nice if we could load the workouts into the Elemnt app and use the app, on a phone, in lieu of a head unit.
One quick point. While I really
Ike the ability to take the workouts outside, I think we need to be very careful to not spend too much time looking at our bike computers outside. Distracted biking is not safe. Please everyone letâs pay attention to the road when we are outside. Save the âstem staringâ for indoors.
I tried this for the first time on Saturday, it was a 1hr 30 Endurance+ ride, 55% - 65% of FTP, but the targets on my Bolt were about 33% of my FTP, not that this really mattered on the day as I was just enjoying an outdoor spin. Is this because the FTP on my bolt is set at a lower level to whatâs on Systm for me?
That would make sense to me. I manually went into the CA and set my FTP at what SYSTM said it was and had it auto-calculate the zones. From what I recall, 4DP is not yet baked into the outdoor workouts.
Other systems already do implement it with a very easy way to pass the workouts. Both Lezyne and Garmin need an activity scheduled for today on Training Peaks (TP) (or Todayâs Plan as well for Lezyne) which can be created and uploaded through their (TPâs) web API with a standard erg file (or mrc or whatever). It would be great to get this.
SYSTEMâs most loyal users were here before it was Wahoo. I wouldnât expect them to necessarily deal with different APIâs for different devices, but TP is all it takes presently. In the past sufferfest did post planned workouts to TP, and they still upload completed ones, so theyâve got experience with that API, and already have account integration, and itâs kind of more general than any one device. Or, they could implement their own API and hope(convince?) device manufacturers will add support for it, just as they support TP now. I certainly wouldnât mind having an ELEMNT, but I donât.
I second that. Preferably a workout is done on a lonely road which is quite easy to navigate.
To reduce the âstem staringâ I would prefer if the target Watt would be written as only the middle value like 200 Watt. My eyes are not getting better and the 180-220 Watt is unnecessarily small.
Furthermore I donât see the benefit in 180-220 Watt vs 200 Watt on the Display. 200 Watt is way better readable and it is normal to hover around the value. Even indoors.
This feature is a total game changer for me! Iâm lucky enough to have an 11 mile stretch of flat, straight, low traffic road with no turns, stop signs or traffic lights. Perfect for these workouts!
I do have an issue though. I syncâd my calendar and all was good until I did a Half Monte and it added 10W to my FTP (YAY ME!). Problem is, all the outdoor workouts still show up on my Bolt with the old numbers. Iâve changed my FTP in the Element app, resyncâd, removed and readded the workout to my caledar and nothing works.
I have the same issues, the FTP and HR zones are not updating automatically from SYSTM to Bolt, Roam device and
Element companion app. Please fix the issues and have same profile features and easy sync within all Wahoo platform and apps.
And wow, Wahoo being antagonistic about supporting anything other than Wahoo head units. Very non-Sufferlandrian. Deleted both my posts for browser extension to support non-Wahoo head units. Wonder if theyâll delete this too: systm.jesikat.nz has linksâŚ
it would be great if the Wahoo fitness app was also upgraded to receive outdoor workouts like Elemnt computers.
I only use iPhones on my bike for my rides with the Wahoo Fitness app, and if that too syncs my planned workouts in Systm, that would be great.
do you know if this wahoo fitness upgrade is planned?
I just did my first outdoor workout. I like it, and everything went smooth, with varia radar, power pedals connected and the elevation segment feature.
Nontheless producing the correct power seemed difficult outisde. I had to be in Z2 and was all over the place. What are your experiences?
Where I live, the terrain is very hilly. Minor variations of grade along with varying road quality and traffic make it very difficult to maintain consistent power. Iâm pretty good at maintaining easy, medium or hard (subject to needs to surge or slow to deal with traffic conditions), but beyond that, I havenât figured it out. Consequently, I ride for fun outside and do high structure inside.
I have a suitable road on my commute where it is working really well.
If the warmup is too short I start it a little bit later so I have the downhill section and most traffic lights past me and am on my quiet and more or less flat and straight stretch.
But it is still not as precise as indoors due to the occasional traffic, -light, flow of the road and shifting. Never the less I am able to implement the intent of the workout quite well and that is the most important part. When I should be doing 190W there is the occasional spike up to 270 or low to 120 but the average fits. Definitely is going to improve your ability in pacing.
Furthermore Iâm just looking at the head-unit at the beep and then pace by feel and check it occasionally. There is still a road I have to watch sometimes But hitting the numbers is only going to get better over time.
I usually find a quiet block that I can do laps around, or an outdoor velodrome. I find it quite doable, but it does require a bit of practice to pace yourself well. I also have a âdumbâ trainer with powermeter though, so Iâm used to pacing already.
Iâve been bicycle commuting into work the three days a week Iâm in the office since it opened back up. I feel a lot has been âwastedâ miles and havenât tried the training as itâs a big city (but mostly bike path) that can get crowded.
Now that winter is coming, there are fewer people (and distractions) and have done multiple workouts over the past 2 weeks and it has really added some life to the commute, so thatâs awesome!
I do second some of the comments above about the ranges making it hard to read especially on the Bolt. One solution I think would be to color the power (I prefer lap power avg) and the cadence based on how close they are to the interval target - similar to what is in system. That way I donât need to really see the numbers, I can adjust based on the colors which is much easier to see.
Regardless, itâs great to have the workouts to do outside now and excited to keep on doing them!
