Sufferfest remasters: Request for input/suggestions

Since Sirs Neal, Francois and David left Wahoo, they don’t seem to have anyone left with anywhere near the creative talent of the them.
While it”s still hard to understand and accept the reasoning behind the short-term remastering, I hope that Rupert’s message/reaction is a sign that something really will change for the better now.

Not just in terms of creativity. Apparently, there’s no one left who can add effects either? For example, the new Rue the Day is missing the “laser” effects at the beginning when the Laser Goats take slow riders out of the race. In The Model, the old fragrance “advertisement” is missing from the new last interval. That’s why I consider these remasters a downgrade.

Ideally the one who created these videos would have stored all assets (videos, audio, images, texts, effects) together with all the necessary project files. Most video editing programs have export options to create stand-alone project packages that contain all required files to easily restore the whole project on another computer. This way the video could be maintained and updated over many years. But we don’t know what kind of software was used or if it’s still available.
The worst case would be that they just have the existing videos without any project files. Forcing them to recreate everything from scratch, i. e. searching for matching videos, still images, effects, … a task that can take even an experienced video editor several days per video.

With June 15 pending, is it safe to assume that there are no other videos with licensing issues and the rest are safe and will remain unsullied?

I literally just now noticed that The Model was on the remaster list :frowning:

The Model is fine. Only the last intervall is new. The new footage is okay, a Time Trial from the Tour de Suisse with Adam Yates and João Almeida. Sadly the last of the old “Advertisement” is missing, but thats only a few seconds.

I strongly disagree.

You mean only the entire last section of intervals. i.e. the finale of a vid that taken as a whole, in 4 parts, really was a work of art.

This is another case of the footage being quite good, and perhaps with a different workout profile, it could be great. But, as it is, it just does not match the efforts at all. Sorry. A TT (as least this particular TT) just does NOT work in the context of the workout profile (see High Time). Also, there is no motivational text at all like “ease up now” or “ramp it up again” or “one last big effort” etc etc, not to mention what you’ve already said about the loss of the SUF Beauty Channel and such to match the theme of the rest of the vid.

For me, the minimum standard (a very low bar) is to have the efforts match the footage, with extra SUF points for SUF humour and the like.

See how far I’ve already lowered my standards

lol. Roger that!

My hope is all the feedback from this thread and others and from the form is really taken to heart.

Or I think its the OG Thin Air although I could be wrong probably am tbh if they’re not pedalling fast or slow on screen at least have the text on screen to say your pedalling fast or slow because that’s what your cadence should be, the video im talking about has your cadence at 100rpm but the rider on screen Movistar I think is not spinning at all as he is on a descent.

I’m not sure what you’re saying here exactly about Thin Air in reference to my comment on The Model. Am I missing something? I often do :old_man:t2:

The footage matching your effort I mean no pedalling on screen but your cadence should be 100 rpm so the motivational text on screen saying ramp it up ie cadence

I think it’s about Thin Air is also demastered.
Let’s hope that the company is actually turning in the right direction. Before I return to SYSTM I’m waiting for some true evidence.

Like what @Glen.Coutts says if the action on screen doesn’t match the effort then at least have motivational text on screen to explain that and don’t just show someone descending while your doing a MAP effort with 110 rpm, that’s just stupid

I’ll reserve (further) judgement (for now) and give them some time to re-remaster these things but for me, personally, your compromise is far too generous.

To me, for a video to be engaging, it has to fully engage me where (minimally) the onscreen footage matches the required effort. Ideally that means power (or RPE) AND cadence but if I have to pick one, it’s power. Cadence being higher and lower can potentially be addressed with an on screen text like “yea, we know she’s grinding this out but we want you to save your legs for later. Trust us, you’ll need them”.

Unfortunately Wahoo have really messed up a good thing. SUF is no longer SUF - I’m sure all videos will end up being remastered and the humor watered down - and the footage is pathetic in most remasters and does not fit the workout.

You only have to go on the Facebook SUF group to see how many old timers (Mike Baxter, Kris Kertesz, Sir Aad, etc) are pulling the plug.

Really is a shame to see how quickly SUF has gone and Systm really hasn’t had any new features added in a very, very long time. And the sports science has vanished into the ether.

No argument here, Sir. None.

I’ll cut them some slack, for now, based on their request for input. I see that as a positive step forward but time will tell.

100% agree. I would add that this shouldn’t be very difficult to do.
