Finally got round it last night but too tired after it to look and see if this post was up.
GOAT is one of my favourites. So was rather disappointed I was doing it in a kind of foggy state … switched all other numbers off screen and pretty much just stared at the single cadence number for three quarters of an hour, pedalling probably with no form whatsoever. And now it’s 50hr joker day (TM James Tyson term). Norway can wait.
Look forward to doing this again when it isn’t part of the ToS as well. It’s a reminder that it needn’t be Power Station every Tuesday.
Same. I bought myself an Ant+ dongle for the laptop, sorted the problem of connectivity out. I prefer Erg mode, being left with only focusing on the cadence helps, especially with tired legs!
After playing a 50 hour SUFday joker I’m properly feeling up to Stage 4 now. Should have done it yesterday I suspect as my inner mongrel is now likely to go do something redonkulous! Nice knowing you all. Heading in…
Ok… I’m a little worried. I… dare i say it… I enjoyed both HIE and G.O.A.T. to the point that I had to check that i was at 100%.
Are my legs broken? should I be somewhat concerned that my brain has switched off some important pain sensors because I know that it should have hurt today and I hit them back to back. I considered that maybe I might need to do a full frontal after this week… then I remembered the joy that was 9H the other day. I think we’re good!
I do feel that maybe I cheated at HIE because my bike REALLY doesn’t like rapid gear changes (dumb trainer). Poor big blue is about 10 years old so you have to allow for some stubbornness and accept that occasionally, if you are too hard on her she WILL chuck her chain.
Ramble over. Stage 4 Well done all and good luck for NORWAY!
I have a question on the Focused option, which I switched to for Stage 3 onwards.
Targets are now showing as adjusted in the app for the rest of the ToS stages, but only for the first part of each remaining double stages (ie 4a, 6a & 7a). It looks like part ‘B’ of the double stages are still at 100%, starting with GOAT today but also for 6b and 7b.
After the last FF, I am a pursuer, but I was an attacker last year at some point. I recover well, but have no big sprint power. Riding in the mountains I had to become comfortable with low cadence on steep climbs.
HIE is so frustrating, with the turbo starting to ramp up power sometimes 7 seconds too late (ok, sometimes I got 7 seconds of recovery). I’ve added 3 more reps to compensate. I’ve never found GOAT that hard, but it was manageable, and somehow enjoyable! Go go goat!
This does not, I repeat NOT, fill me with confidence.
G.O.A.T. is probably the one I’m dreading the most in the whole tour. The power targets it seems to set me at 50rpm are a struggle at the best of times.
My start time is in a couple of hours. If you don’t hear from me, I’ll be pile of lasered-up mush at the side of the road.
I too took advantage of the 50 hour day (well actually started Saturday and had a day to spare), so yesterday was a rest day, and I needed it. I did not sleep well on Monday night, so I did not recover as much as I needed. A good night sleep and feel much better now.
Now it’s just three days in a row left. The end is near…!
Sorry, Nope! Had just hopped on to the saddle to use the iPhone timer and the kickr bike sits higher than the other bike. Butt firmly on the saddle ready to grind!
Admittedly took a break for an hour between the two workouts … but still on the nuclear profile settings.
Tough grinding out those low cadence / high torque efforts after the ugly 15s!
Woof. Low cadence grinding is not my specialty, and GOAT was a real struggle after HIE, but I did it. This was the day I was worried about the most, so I was ready to suffer. I just hope I’m right that the rest will be a tad bit easier…
