There are several threads on teacki g stress including “real world” stuff. I cannot remember the nams of the last one.
Hail hail the lucky ones
That finish line feeling!
Thank you very much Sir Stuart for this opportunity, and thank you so much to all that made The Sufferfest all the treasure it is
As a wrap-up stage nine turned out not to be as violent as I had anticipated. It’s also a fact that tempo steady slower cadence climb is probably where i feel most comfortable in discomfort!
Stage 8 was the real beast without a doubt and where the hammer hit with all its might until it left me on my agonia. I finished Stage 8 very crushed, so planed to leave stage 9 for the end of the day yesterday to try and recover something and somehow I managed.
Brilliant Tour of Sufferlandria!
Dealing with a cold i have a bit more to recover this time.
Sir Stuart @Critmark , if i may, what will you do now " in between ToS’s" , besides timetraveling. How do you recover? Do you follow a recovery plan and then specific preparation for the 2016 ToS revival?
I don’t know what to do now. Grateful if I can receive any tips.
But for now, as the beginning of my recovery, I’m going to scour the forum looking for the origin of… Xoom
I will be using this first week to recover. I will be doing easy miles for a few days and then gradually increase the load. Nothing ‘hard’ for several days though.
Then we have four weeks to work on whatever we like. Next week I will bang out the monthly challenge rides. Then I will likely pick something specific to focus on. I have been working on increasing my cadence but think this block I will do something else. Climbing maybe (Ugghh). The only thing set in my mind right now will be some longer slow rides, probably twice a week.
Then we are at the prep week for 2016.
I had a really productive five week block designed by a coach/friend of mine that I did last fall. I am going to modify that to four weeks between 2016 and 2017.
I hope that helps.
I HIGHLY recommend doing the Mental Training Plan. One of the very first modules is called Identifying Your Big Mountain (in the before times it was called Mt. Sufferlandria
) This module helps you identify a goal that you really REALLY want to achieve then the rest of the program helps you develop a realistic and achievable plan to make the goal come to fruition. I can not say enough good things about the MTP.
I scoured the interwebs and came up with this:
As for the origin of Xoom, well that appears to date back to the 9th century when the Minionati fought the brief (but apparently VERY comfortable) Couchlandrian occupation of Sufferlandria, when suffering was banned and donut shops proliferated and big comfy couches were everywhere. The wahoominati are descendants of those brave minions and have been fighting for a more prominent place for Sufferlandria since The Company archived all the web lore and the Knights honour roll back in September of 2021 . The Company continues to relegate our great nation and the wahoominati are having none of it.
Xoom is a transliteration of “centre” of the wahoominati logo. The letter o’s were intentionally designed to look like wide open eyes looking right at you. Hence, they are always watching. #twaaw And, as for the word Xoom itself, it can be pronounced either Zoom (like the speeding up sound) or Exhume (like what an archaeologist would do).
I’m recovering by preparing to climb tge lical Mountain. Then I’ll return to go through TOS 2016.
Going for the Mt Lemmon KOM?
Ah,no. The current holder did that ride on about half the tme ot would take me. He’s also 1/3 my age.
Thank you Sir Stuart! Sorry for the late reply, i ended the ToS 2015 in really bad shape mixed with a flu and needed some good recover and sleep! Was off for two days.
I already managed to do a gentle run on thursday and yesterday and earlier today a very gentle ride. And just a short, relaxing swim in the sea also felt very revigorating aka cold!
It helps undoubtedly! Thank you
I like listening to other perspectives. I have trained a lot in another phase of my life, always with some objective and some plan.
Now I’m a little more limited and that’s also why I turned back to this opportunity.
I was undecided about whether I would dedicate myself to another swimrun event in May, but I’m not in a good so I won’t. and I was undecided on what to do. I had also thought about attacking the monthly challenge events next week, but not knowing if it would be too soon. I still haven’t looked at their profile well.
Well may you have good weeks and see you stronger in 2016!
I apologize for the delay in responding Sir Glen, even more so to such a special message!
Thank you for the recommendation, i will try the MTP. We always have a lot to learn and improve without a doubt.
Objectives, or ambitions, I never lacked, had i time and money available and I wouldn’t do anything else! ![]()
Setting a big goal isn’t usually one of my difficulties depending on my possibilities and reality.
Also I’m more of a outdoor, and cycling has never been my main or only activity, it’s always been more passion and free time, and that’s why I’ve never been able to fit in a real ToS since I met The Sufferfest in 2014. I trained with some videos with a lot of enthusiasm and I was obviously and immediately an unconditional fan, but I never managed to do a ToS despite having accompanied the growth of the Great Mythical Nation.
Incepted and I assume without shame, influenced by the Kings of Sufferlandria reports, and especially for the images that exist of the royal chambers, storming the Castel is without a doubt one of the great objectives! Perhaps it is being composed to happen.
I’ve always enjoyed running and swimming, regarding cycling was more mountain biking. the enchantment for road biking is more recent.
For now it seems perfect to follow Sir Stuart’s project and take the opportunity to visit the glory of the past.
Thank you so much for this history lesson!
This year, when I thought I was going to do my first real ToS , it was definitely a big disappointment when the name came out.
I realize that a lot is happening and a lot of uncertainty hangs in the cloud.
Long live The Sufferfest!!
Hail Hail Wahoominati!
Xoom Xoom
May we ever get:
"delivered levels of pain, agony and misery never before witnessed outside Sufferlandria.’
I tried a stroopwafel and was disappointed that it wasn’t crunchy. Was it just the kind I had or are they always soft and chewy?
Sir Glen, yes they are generally soft and chewy. If they are not at least somewhat warmed, they are more hard than crunchy.
That’s the way they are supposed to be. Traditionally, they are hard and you put one on top of your coffee mug which heats it and softens it so it’s nice and warm and moist and chewy. The exercise versions are softer since you’re not expected to slowly warm them over a cup of coffee.
I have one almost every morning before any ride of 90 minutes or more. Much better than a gel, and easier and quicker to digest than natural food which I don’t have time to wake up early enough to eat and digest before my early morning rides.
Isn’t it just a small donut soaked in sugar and squished in a waffle press.
Nope. More like a 2 waffles soaked in syrup or caramel with a caramel center and then pressed flat.
According to Wikipedia… is a thin, round waffle cookie made from two layers of sweet baked dough held together by caramel filling.
