Wahoo X November Challenge - The Sufferfest

There is no set percentage requirement for a Knighthood. I think mine was closer to an average near 70% and I KNOW that my last vid had several points where I went down to 60 for a bit.

The only thing is that you have to do a ride in which you suffer and are truly proud. Some folks interpret that as doing 1 of the 10 at a particularly high percentage. My interpretation is that suffering is relative and after 9 hours 60-70% might feel like 100%.

Hehe. I was loosely referencing the argument clinic sketch.

This is not an argument, it’s pure contradiction

When I did Cobbler at the end of my second quest I could barely finish at 55% and 135w felt like threshold. :grimacing::hot_face:

Agreed 100%
I was actually glad I managed to:

  1. Get off the saddle and the bike
  2. Walk towards the back yard
  3. Switch on the tap to run water all over me and sat down on the yard.
:point_up_2: Is probably the ultimate best thing in the world at that time. Even wept a little. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Well, I completed the November challenge today, and was really pleased with the way I performed in all of the sessions. Had my best ever Half is Easy and The Model…

Question for @Rupert : may I ask why there is not KICKR Climb integration at all in Half is Easy and Team Scream? I mean, for people who spend extra on a KICKR Bike or a KICKR Climb, it’s really disappointing to see how often this climb integration is left out of workouts…

In The Model, there is a bit of incline changes during the warmup and then only during the first set of intervals - so nothing from about 20 minutes onwards. It really feels as though someone forgot to complete their work assignment on this one.

Sorry to harp on this issue occasionally, but I just don’t understand why something like this seems to be an afterthought or completely left out on many of the sessions (including almost 100% of the Inspiration series), when it seems like not much extra work to add gradient settings while building the workouts.

@RServranckx Curious how you would envision the Climb working with Half is Easy as it is pretty much all short MAP intervals along with rest. Personally I don’t think the Climb would add a lot of value for that workout but you could always adjust the Climb manually if you felt that you wanted to work a different position during the intervals.

Team Scream is a flat course so my guess is it probably didn’t get Climb integration. Again, I personally don’t think it would add anything to the workout versus integration for a workout like Thin Air.

In case you haven’t seen it, below is a link noting the workouts that are integrated with the Climb.

https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/4402790266002-Workouts-that-are-compatible-with-the-KICKR-BIKE-and-KICKR-CLIMB-tilt-gradient-feature

I think your question about the Inspiration videos is a good one. I had not thought of that - perhaps it would be good to have a random mode with the climb that varied the tilt for those sorts of workouts.

Half is Easy could be done like the first interval set of The Model - just a 1-3% incline change on the efforts. And some variations during the rest periods. Team Scream could easily have 1-2% gradients here and there, like any real “flat road” (seriously, perfect 0% roads are rare!). If you look at the Pro Rides, I believe that all but one have gradient changes.

The Model seems incomplete - there are some good gradient changes in the first set of intervals, then nothing.

Wahoo could have some easy customer satisfaction wins by completing the gradient integration in all workouts.

I finally got around to doing the Challenge today! I intended to go Nuclear :boom: and see how long I could hold 100% … Here’s how it went:
1. GAWI - Great! Cruisy ride up some mountains with Mike Cotty. Awesome start! :mountain_biking_man:
2. The Model - Yep, not too bad, hit most of the targets. Getting a bit tired by the end.
3. Half is Easy - It never is. And it wasn’t. I always find it’s hard to hit the targets when switching between easy and hard (dumb trainer with power meters here). I could have done without the 2nd set of Ugly 15’s in HIE and was thinking that it would have been fun to do some longer efforts. Maybe Revolver is Easy could have been a happy medium?
4. Team Scream - My legs were done going into it. Did the first lap @ 100%, but that was too much. Put it down to 90% for lap 2, and that was a bit better, but I was destroyed by the 3rd lap. Even the recoveries were hard. :volcano:

So - my legs hurt. Overall, a tough challenge. But I got the badge!!! Now I’m yearning for some SUF stuff! :+1:

I am on a dumb roller with power meters so technically it should be harder to hit the targets, but I do hit the targets as instructed to so. Perhaps my overall power output isn’t as high as you all are… :man_shrugging:

Started a bit late around midnight due to some distractions and no Internet which I had to fix first. Probably my kids pulled out/damaged a network cable in their room going into a switch behind the desk… First time for everything.

I rode the model fist because I find the video and workout quite boring to get it out of the way. I never get into the right headspace.
Some riders bring an occasional smile to my face.
There is only one song “Treat me like a lady” in the middle recovery which is nice and uplifting. Music tastes are different :hugs:

After that I did the video which I find gets one very easy into a nice rhythm of total relaxation and some other awesome feeling.
After half of it I reduced to 80%. Turned it up to 100% again for the last two bonus intervals.
I totally missed the ramp up after the fridge scene with the guy who probably has massive power on the first few pedal strokes of his sprint. Would have needed that power it was quite the struggle.
The two swiss guys crashing distracted me slightly too, but not enough to get me in any real problems.

After that I did GAWI and totally ignored most stand, low & high cadence parts. This way I could survive better at 100%…
“And get those shoulders down!” always gets me…
Mike is time and again a awesome midnight riding buddy!

Team Scream is such a great workout! I even kinda like the music in the beginning because it fits well. I chose it last since I knew it would motivate me the most for my finish.
After the first lap I reduced the intensity in 5 % decrements to 80%.
Once the DS changes the radio station to good music (after 41 minutes I think) it gets even better. It’s kinda fair this way more people can listen partially to the music they prefer and it is a great boost for the last stretch.
The goat at 46 Minutes is great.
I did the last sprints at 100% for extra sore muscles the next day. Even the chamois did a great job since I ride very little at the moment and everything is fine.

:confetti_ball: Thanks a lot for the challenge plus chance to win some swag! :confetti_ball: Other life commitments currently win totally and I would not have taken the time to ride otherwise.
