Stage 5 and The Omnium is done & done. Felt the best of any stage so far. I may give Thin Air a go tomorrow morning instead of evening, depending on how the legs feel.
Still a few hours of work this evening though.

Did Stage 6 Thin Air plus the Mental Positive Self Talk (but my wife says I am always mental). Three Stages to go.
So far, I have recorded a best distance in 7 of the 8 rides. Albeit some were measured in a few hundredths of a miles. The one that got me was the one Sir Glen is always warning about, Elements of Style where I was short 0.23 of a mile.
Overall though +2.32 miles. Not stellar, but pretty good considering these are being done as part of a tour.
Mini-Blender tonight.
Crushed Mimi-Blender, over 2.8 miles farther than my previous best. But that was 27 months ago. Clearly riding much better today at 68 than I was back then at 65.
14 Vice Grips tomorrow and then the final double hitter; There Is No Try and Defender.
And a good time was had by all.
Great work Sir Stuart @Critmark!
This tour has really flown by for me
I’m always impressed by how well you ride all these TOS workouts. You are a TOS legend.
Stage 8 - 14 Vice Grips has been conquered. 0.68 miles farther than my previous best a few months ago.
Now come the real test - There Is No Try + Defender. Highly unlikely I do a distance best in both, or maybe even one. I will give it my max suffering though, in true nuclear fashion.
A compliment indeed from a five time Knight. I am humbled, thank you kind Sir.
ToS 2019 is done.
The good:
I’m done!!!
Managed to do both final stage rides at a new distance best.
After a rocky start to the tour, I settled in and it went well.
The bad:
It was 36F outside this morning and just 49f in my suffer cave. With the space heater on it got all the way up to a balmy 51F.
I forgot my inhaler so my EIB slapped me pretty hard. The 3 minute recoveries in Defender were not enough to get my breathing back to normal. A truly miserable ride in which I did SUFFER.
Tour overall totals: TSS +57, IF + 0.38, Distance + 4.56 miles.
Rapha 500 the last week of the month, Tour of WhatEverTheHell end Feb and then I will schedule the final two Tours to complete the set.
Now for a nap.
Well done!
Even if you could breathe properly that’s still no guarantee of finishing Defender.
If your TOD adventures are any sign, you’ll crush your future tour plans.
Bravo Sir Stuart @Critmark!
