Where ave you seen that price? I only see it at 199eur
Well there you go. Just got the email from Wahoo saying that RGT is to close on Oct 31. 12 months Zwift subscription instead.
“Over the coming month we will be announcing a number of exciting new developments – these will include investment in SYSTM with improved functionality, new content and features, and a significant update to the Wahoo App to simplify the way that users interact with their Wahoo devices.”
All that effort on steering, drafting, voice and playing with magic roads. What a shame.
I wonder what will happen to the staff on that side of the business.
It says in the mail that the “talented team” will focus exclusively on structured workouts.
I see no reason that that means layoffs.
That’s good then.
I wonder if any of the tech is being sold or given to Zwift as part of their new friendship.
I would really hope Z€€€t would start up a MagicRoads type feature.
like their Climb Portal ?
You mean the cross between an lsd trip and the 90’s on a ribbon of road that went uphill? While it was cool and all to ride the elevation of some of the TDF mountains, the grotesque background interface made me want to vomit more than the workout of climbing the hill.
You make it sound so amazing, where do I sign up?
Unfortunately, several folks who worked on RGT were indeed let go. Here’s the most public comment from one of them:
If they focus on planned workouts, why is the Rival watch platform, which is important for non-cycling workouts, abandoned? This does not make any sense. Should we track our running, swimming or yoga workouts with the bike computer or smartphone?
I never used a Rival, but were they any good, they didn’t look it. The features didn’t match a decent Garmin or similar from what I heard.
The watch market is way more competitive than bike computers, since you have Apple, Google, et al in addition to pure fitness devices. Wahoo came out with an underwhelming first generation and doesn’t have the money to stay competitive in the space.
I’m not an insider, but I suspect that the resources dedicated to developing the Rival were also a part of Wahoo’s subsequent financial pain (there had been speedbumps even before the pandemic).
I hadn’t tried the climb portal but I’m not put off by it. I have tried magic roads in RGT and the lack of scenery made it kinda meh for me. I mean the concept was cool and it had loads of potential but never got the dev time or $ it needed to become something truly great.
How are the running/strength/yoga/swimming planned workouts utilized without any watch support?
Bet big boss is still getting his money though…

Ive had one for a couple of years (2nd actually…software failure ). They are…ok. I’d give it
out of five.
Could be sooo much more functional - especially in terms of data exchange and integration into Wahoo’s OWN architecture.
And yeah - no updates since Dec 2022.
Much as we feel let down, you really have to feel for the Wahoo employees. They must have had a torrid time. Reported financial difficulties of the firm, the hope as the refinance came through, then apparently staff being let go at Sufferfest, the press announcement of deal/agreement for the law suit and now the announced closure of RGT. For some of those employees RGT will have been years of work and it seems as if there will be no future platform for all of that work that they did. I hope that they are looked after and helped in the next step of their career paths.
