@Joanna_Chodorowska_N I just finished Tour Down Under 1 for the 1st time yesterday with Nicole Frain. It was great and I am looking forward to 2 and 3 as well. There isn’t music like the Sufferfest videos but I found myself totally engaged just with the sounds of the race.
@TheBelgian Understood but some of us need those videos for our training programs - eg. FTP Progressions, 4x20, 3x10s etc. Sometimes I just need to put on the headphones, crank the tunes and watch the bars to get stuff done.
Yup. This.
not sure I have done the Down Unders yet….will check it out this week!
I usually blast Pandora or Spotify with my alternative 80’s music…
ooh exciting! More On Location coming!
SIR francois:
I look forward to increased Suffering and more Inspiration. I know about a dozen Inspiration videos are being retired, but i always look forward to their replacements.
Sir James
Excellent news, I love the On Location stuff - and dare I say, even more than the Sufferfest videos (and I’m another long-term user, having started back in the day on a dumb wheel-on trainer and downloaded videos…)
better open your app then cuz they’re here now
The look good workouts, but a little more description of the purpose of the training would be great. I know you can see a lot from the profile and the blobs for MAP/FTP etc as well as the TSS and IF, but I like more of a description. For instance, doing 14 Vice Grips this evening and the description is very detailed. @wahoo - please could we have more detail?
The new 38 minute FTP/MAP session looks set to be on my short on time but still want to get one in list.
Likewise, I can see me doing that 38min session very soon. Not today, mind, I’ve got an RGT race today
Did Wahoo SYSTM: On Location: Galicia: Corcubion to Finesterra yesterday after 14 Vice Grips on Wednesday. Plan said Found in America but I fancied something shorter and harder. Legs were minging (sorry for the British slang) immediately after 14 Vice grips and I must admit that on the second 2 minute MAP, I rolled off the power a few seconds early.
Legs surprisingly ok day after 14 Vice grips and hence wanting a bit more. Galacia was doable on tired legs but the last MAP escalator was hard.
Session was good, that is definitely going to be on my short on time list of session.
Although the disadvantage of “On Location” videos is that I am sure the content will get old just as quick if not quicker than the Sufferfest Videos, no disrespect to Mike Cotty. Although he does need to earn his keep as well.
I wonder if the “On Location” are preferred now by Wahoo as it is probably cheaper to pay Mike than purchase the licence fees for the race and on bike footage for the racing in the Sufferfest Videos?
I did the Tour Down Under series three or four weeks ago over a 4-day stretch. They were amazing, and kicked my butt quite sufficiently thank you!!

the content will get old just as quick
That’s probably very personal. I’ve done some of the On Location rides three times now, and I still enjoy them.
I’ve met Mike a while ago in London and he’s such a genuine nice guy with positive energy. I feed off that on every On Location ride.
Definitely ugly and in need of a wash but felt very very nasty afterwards and generally unpleasant which are all also descriptors!
Absolutely. And having done “The Cure” 17 times, I still think it’s funny. I must have deep rooted Sufferlandrian tendencies or maybe I should ask for my money back on that session as I keep having to go back to get cured.
Also in reflection, I can see how Mike can act as your training partner motivating and spurring you on. I have a number of set loops which are great because they are a known quantity and you know what to expect in your training and can also gauge how you are going. So, maybe it won’t get old.
And we want to keep Mike in employment! He certainly seems a nice guy and someone you’d be happy to ride with on a long ride. Maybe they need to develop alternative scripts you can have for the on location rides. You can have a really upbeat Mike script or an insulting one - “come on you slacker, try harder” (although I’m not sure Mike could do the Sgt Major thing that well - too nice).
They could embed AI to sense when you rolled off the power 2 seconds early and then have a script to berate you. Now there’s an idea to develop - Wahoo needs to chat to Chat GPT.

I was wondering this myself… something to keep the mind busy while turning over the pedals. On Location would still require a bit of scripting and production but once done no significant license concerns long-term. I don’t know how that compares to the effort of producing a “classic” SUF video, or the licensing costs for both video and music.
My other feeling is that On Location generally targets sweet-spot / threshold workouts which SYSTM doesn’t have a deep video catalog for. The Inspiration, On Location, Sufferfest, and ProRides all have a distinct flavor so it’s no surprise that there’s a focus on the “new” categories to bring a solid total balance to available workouts. I imagine there’s some sweet spot of balance of available which may be settle on over time.
On Location (and A Week With, Sufferfest, Pro Rides) don’t get old for me. On Location and Pro Rides my favourites.
Never done NoVid, never did GCN, find Inspiration mixed - enjoy some a lot (Thereabouts, Outskirts, Solidream, Mike Cotty ones) and others not at all.
Beauty of SYSTM is there is something for everyone or to suit what you want on a particular day.

Huh??? O contrare, mon frere. IMO neither Suf vids or on Location ( or @michael.cotty for that matter) will soon get old. the variety, the scenery, the workouts even the entertainment value continues to impress while maintaining my engagement. There is so much choice with more evidently coming soon (makes me giddy) that it is difficult to choose. All with tailored workouts that beats the hell out of chasing some avatars through a college project CGI land.

I’m pretty sure @michael.cotty doesn’t age. Must have found the fountain of youth on one of those rides.
