February 2023 Challenge

I came a little later to the suffer party and only bought downloads of AVDP, Rubber Glove and EOS before Kurt Kinetic partnered and had the vids for ToS 2016 in their app, then the SUF app and now SYSTM. Where else are we gonna get the variety of stuff on offer here? Besides, we can never leave

Thanks for all the great feedback about the February Climbing challenge!

Over 300 completions and still a week to go…

Sure! JosĆ© has done nearly all of our ProRides so dig into a few more and you’ll enjoy those. Nicole is in our three On Location Tasmania’s as well as our four Tour Down Under ProRides. And don’t forget to try out all of the ProRides featuring Clara Koppenburg - especially stage 1 of the new Tour de Suisse series which is AWESOME BEYOND WORDS.

Plus another one, yay!

The ProRide was unpleasant (but that’s the whole point, I get it), the others were very pleasing.

Finished it off with the short KOM session with Phil today and managed to hit ~10% above the targets - that feels good.

Nice variation of workouts across the SYSTM spectrum though. Looking forward to next month’s line up.

Got the badge Monday, though the only way to fit in the ProRide with the Tour prep plan was to dial it down to 85% FTP and ride it as a tempo + surges. I have done it full force in the past so don’t have much guilt about taking it ā€œeasyā€

Yesterday the real riders did Jebel Jais in the UAE tour and I definitely had a few ā€œI know that bit!ā€ moments watching.

434 of our riders out there are officially Climbers and have the badge to prove it!
Still 4 days to go to get the badge!!

Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to ride all of these this month (I will get to them, tho). But I will definitely be riding Angels on the 28th.

I have the badge, but I am NOT a climber. Just stubborn and crazy!

Isn’t that exactly what makes a climber a climber? Oh look, there’s a stooopid hill, I wonder if I can ride up it?

OHHH. Do you mean stooopid as in doing Tour de Suisse Women 3 with two long climbs in it. That would be as opposed to STUPID in thinking the middle section was just too easy and doing it at 160% which I paid for dearly on the second climb.

The thing you learn when doing ProRides is that when the Pros are taking it easy it’s because they know what is coming and plan on ripping themselves to pieces at some point not very far down the road. This is why you do not ever increase the intensity on those.

2 hours and 9 minutes too late with that advice.

My lord do I @#$% hate that UAE ride. Sustained efforts AND hills? Oh hey, sounds fun.

Feature request: why can’t we turn off the graph, like all the other metrics? I feel like - for ProRides in particular - it would almost benefit me to NOT have the graph in front of me. Let me concentrate on the road and the other riders.

Yes.

TFW 85-90% of FTP is a welcome ā€œbreakā€. Yup, definitely still hate it.

At least this time around the video crashed right before Demarchi blew up, so I didn’t have to watch that. Small favors.

I Woke up this morning with motivation. February 26th, not a single workout done, I need to do something
The idea was to do them all until I blow up. And I blew up :bomb: of course.
Starting with angels, long time no see. I remember my chubby riding buddy was mentioned before, looks like he got fitter, good for him.
UAE Tour then, great workout. Looking at the graph, you know that De Marchi is going to give up at some point, and I’m happy he did, because I was cooked at the very same time.
Tasmania: during the warm-up, I knew the space bar would be my friend later in the workout (4 times IIRC). I’m glad it’s easier near the top, because even if it looks like a wonderful place to ride, I’ve spent most of the climb looking at my stem, with blurry eyes :).

I hope the legs will forgive me and allow me to finish the short KOM tomorrow (for a second, I thought I could maybe give it a try, but then saw all this yellow… No way  ) .

Great challenge so far!

Edit the day after: that highway ride was much more scary than the yellow parts on the graph!

Just done with the challenge! Overall I quite like the selection. My strategy was to split the challenges into different weeks and exchange my training block with an IF value similar to the February challenge’s sessions. Feels great!

I am, as usual, late to the party - I think that I closed out January on the 31st. I have been dealing with stress-related health issues all month, and haven’t ridden. I am starting to feel better, and then I realized yesterday (02/26) that it is almost the end of the month!

Trying to crank out the challenge in these last days, at very reduced intensity. I completed Mt Wellington yesterday - ended up just spinning through it. And spun through UAE this morning. Just happy to be back on the bike! I will knock out KOM this evening, and then Angels tomorrow after Defender In Defense of Sir Dan. Hopefully I can dial it up a bit for these last 2 (3) rides. Always simply thrilled to be here!

I loved this monthly challenge. The ā€œclimbingā€ videos are usually my favorites, and even moreso since I got my KICKR Climb and started using it early in 2023. The only problem I had with the challenge was my own stupidity.

My wife and I escaped to Tucson for the first several days of February for a cycling camp (including a fabulous ride up Mt. Lemmon) and we returned to our snowy and cold abode on Feb 7.

My stupid decision was to then proceed to jam all of the Tour prep plan into the remaining time starting on Feb 8 and still finishing before March 12, meaning very few or no days off, but I just wanted to do it anyway. Then I realized the Feb challenge also needed to be done, meaning four more to squeeze in and double up! My legs feel tired at this point, but by next week I’ll be on the original prep plan and rarin’ to go by March 12!
