🚨 New Novid Workouts – Available Now 🚨

I just received some new stuff to share that the team would love your thoughts on. We have a new set of 9 Novid workouts live and ready for your to ride. The graphs may look familiar as they are shortened versions of some of the most popular Sufferfest sessions.

These workouts maintain the same science and effectiveness as the originals but are designed for the time-crunched athlete, delivering focused training in under 40 minutes.

They are perfect for:
:white_check_mark: Indoor sessions when time is limited
:white_check_mark: Structured intervals on outdoor rides
:white_check_mark: Pairing with Zwift or other apps

NEW NoVids:

  1. Micro intervals pyramid (The Shovel)

  2. Micro intervals inverse pyramid (The Shovel)

  3. 3 x 1-minute AC with Tempo (The Trick)

  4. FTP and MAP over-unders 10/8 (Angels)

  5. Surge/threshold/surge/tempo/surge 2 x 10 (Who Dares)

  6. MAP/FTP Over-Unders 2 x 10 (The Model)

  7. MAP 7 x 30s - 2min (14 Vise Grips)

  8. Cadence builds x4 (Cadence Builds)

  9. Sprints 3 Sets 5, 10, 15 seconds with decreasing rest (Violator)

Explore them, incorporate them into your training, and discover how effective shorter workouts can be.

:high_voltage: Which one will you try first?

Hey Dame Helga! Thanks for the update. I’m almost ready to hunker down for my sadly farrrrr too long indoor season. Maybe I’ll even start an indoor training plan (maybe I’ll even finish one :man_facepalming:t3: :joy:). Will these or have these already been incorporated in the training plans?

While I personally have 0 interest in no-vids, if these did show up in a training plan, I’d consider either doing them while in TPv or Zwift or maybe even the SUF/SYSTM equivalents cut short (I may have done that once or twice in the past  )

This one….

I’m really happy about this – perfect to squeeze in over a lunch break while working from home, while still getting a good training stimulus. And short enough that ‘just’ listening music of my choosing (i.e., a no vid) is fine. Looking forward to doing a few of them. Not the Violator one. I will never look forward to Violator.

Yes, good for short sessions. I did over unders from Angels today, perfect 30 minutes. The “if you want a longer cool down, rewind” message at the end of the second block could be changed.

Hi Dame Helga, I hope you are well.

Thanks for posting this, I’m glad you’ve raised the subject of Novid workouts as it helped me decide. I agree with you that there is a time and place for them, perhaps best in small doses, but Wahoo seemed to think differently…

I was a devout Sufferlandrian until quite recently, but started losing a bit of faith due to the ‘remastering’. Then, with a couple of big climbing trips planned, I looked into the 12 week plans to help get into shape.

After putting in my criteria the first schedule suggested every one of the long weekend rides as a Novid ride with the odd midweek one too. Surely some mistake ? I tried a couple of different criteria, but the same humourless, soulless and silent weekends came up every single time:face_with_monocle:. There was to be suffering of course, but that’s a ‘given’ (or maybe GVAn?) for every schedule. Disappointing, demotivating and the final straw, unfortunately. With great reluctance I didn’t renew my subscription after that. The prospect of over a third of all scheduled rides (and nearly half the riding time) lacking any entertainment or engaging content seemed lazy and anti-SUF.

Is there any good reason why any video workout couldn’t make it onto the schedule? I want to subscribe again, I really do, but not if I have to sign up to Zwift as well.

Cheers

I definitely hear ya.

There has never been any video workouts in the library longer than 2 hours other than ISLTA and Kitchen Sink and Open 120.

But it would definitely be nice to have some kind of long video rides even if it means just adding some kind of video to the long endurance workouts.

And also adding alternatives to the training plans other than long no-vids which I almost always swap out for long rides in TPV or Zwift.

There is always the ye old option of riding reduced intensity SUF videos back to back. That would also be a good change of pace for the training plans.

The Sufferfest was supposed to help alleviate blank wall turbo trainer boredom. So, definitely would be a good idea to give us some videos for these workouts.

There definitely aren’t enough over two hour videos. I do some On Location videos back to back, but usually end up subscribing to ROUVY for a few months during the winter to get some longer rides in. I don’t like to repeat videos very often so it gets hard to find videos for the weekends as the winter drags on.

For long z2 workouts I either go outdoors or put a film on Netflix if the weather prevents outdoor riding. Would be hard to make a engaging SUF style video I think for long duration steady state rides, not much of a storyline other than keep peddling.

Same Sir James. YouTube has too many cycling videos to count. There are so many POVs from gravel races and bikepacking events to count. Anything from five minutes up. I found an 11 hour POV video of a racer doing the Leadville 100.

11 hours or z2 on a turbo. That would be awful.

One hour at a time.

Will these be injected in current programs?

Hi Helga,

The MAP 7 x 30 seconds-2 mins from 14 Vise Grips has my weakness written all over it.

Timeframe matches my morning workout time available, sadly though I do prefer a video workout. If I do a novid workout, I think this one will be the one though!

It’s nice to have options.
