I would bet most average speakers of English do not use memoranda, concerti, or symposia. In fact, as I wrote those words, the spell checker flagged them.
Data is an interesting case because we would say many collections of data, rather than “datas”.
Nobody said language was logical.
That is why rule-based language translators were failures, and only with modern statistical approaches did we get useful translation software.
