Haha
. Think I just sent you a private message @Rupert Otherwise itās here for the world to see and then I must enter the witness protection program.
Most smart trainers canāt keep up.with the fast changes in power in Revolver which is ehy they recommend level mode. Can confirm a Kickr Bike connected via Wifi rather than BLTE can. Yikes. It rips your legs off!
My Kickr Core is pretty good with Revolver. I have to remember to pick up my cadence a second or two before each interval starts otherwise they become a grind.
This may be the SADDEST NEWS IāVE EVER READā¦
My KICKR Bike is the previous generation.![]()

That said, it may even MORE EASILY AND FREQUENTLY RIP YOUR LEGS OFF!! When it misses the signal to drop the crazy high power demand and Iāve already let up on the pressure, the power death spiral ensues and I NEVER GIVE UP. Itās a wonder I havenāt ripped quads and hams right off the boneā¦
Decided today with yet ANOTHER rainy day and more to come that I ought to do the June Challenge, and that I would do ALL THREE remaining workouts back to back to back today.
Itās a good thing I had already done Fight Club or I would have been tempted to go for a Quad.
Once Iād decided on doing the remaining 3, I just didnāt let myself off the hook once I was on the KICKR Bike.
I think I made the right choice on the order of workouts, tackling Revolver first, with its minimal recovery times (I BARELY got my HR down to the very top of Zone2 by the time the next interval hit me! I was laughing every time I saw that the ātarget HRā was Zone 1 for the 1minute recovery time; NO WAY that was happening!) But I hit the targets and put out a better effort than I did back in March, better cadence, speed, and lower HR. Didnāt cheat anything to save for rounds 2 and 3.
Then G.O.A.T. next was also tough because I was certainly drained, and those intervals were longer but a bit lower that Revolver. I REALLY ENJOYED the TILT ADJUSTMENT function of the KICKR Bike on this ride; a very welcome change. Sure hope it comes into play on more and more workouts. The very low cadence, high torque efforts were a total change from Revolver, and I worked hard to try to meet them, but found myself generally 3-5rpms lower than target, and I was struggling to find the right number. Iām sure I NEED this kind of workout a lot. I think my hamstrings are much less engaged than they need to be as a general rule. I think they are always a weak area for me, and Iāve often suffered with nagging pain in my left ham that never stops me from riding but rarely feels 100%. My core seems to be strong and my form seems good, but I can tell Iām not strong pulling up toward my butt. It takes extra focus and I still know that part of the stroke is not contributing as much. (This is one reason I do Foundation Training Original 12mins w Dr Eric Goodman as a steady practice; it helps strengthen and lengthen my hams and does WONDERS for my lower back pain.)
And finally, SUF IDOL being shorter was psychologically easier to face; the efforts are all short, and I generally can dig deep to face any challenge as long as itās short enough! Those are my forte; though Iām not a sprinter, Iām competitive and slow to accept defeat! I completed it pretty much right on the targets, (though not exceeding them like I did back in February, but I think I was bent on overachieving that time.)
SUF IDOL certainly took about all the FIGHT (CLUB) I had left!
Weāre in the midst of a big block of rainy weather that is wrapping up today (and I canāt complain weāve had it really good for a really long time). I needed a recovery week of sorts anyhow. Rode Fight Club last night and SMASHED it. Felt good the whole time too.
Hey, this training stuff works!
A HUGE shout out to all the Coaches, Wahoo, SufferFest folks of today and past, and this COMMUNITY. Iām so, so happy with my current fitness and progression. Iāve been floundering (but still having fun nonetheless) riding for about 12 years now, and this winter I finally followed a plan. Itās amazing to me how well it works.
All I have left for the June Challenge is #SUF Idol. Do I want to do this in LEVEL mode or no? I think my Kickr Bike can keep up, but am I leaving something on the table if I donāt do it in Level mode? Thanks for any advice.
To level mode or no?
I did SUF Idol last month and this month. I tried it two different ways. Note: I have a Kickr Core which responds pretty well with rapid changes.
Last month I did it on ERG mode, but switched to Level mode 5 seconds before the NM intervals, and then switched back 5 seconds after. Then I did the AC and MAP intervals still in ERG mode.
This month I did the warmup in ERG mode, but then switched and everything else in Level mode.
At minimum I would suggest doing those NM intervals in Level mode. Itās hard to hit and hold that power in ERG mode.
Whether you keep it in Level mode for the rest⦠thatās up to you.
But the workout as a whole felt easier to me in Level mode.
ā¦and done. ----- Club has me needing to test. This is good cuz my last test was Yak Shit!
I ended up doing this (SUF Idol) in ERG mode until after the first NM effort and then switched to Level mode until the final few minutes. While I think I would have been fine in ERG mode (KICKR Bike v1) the whole time, I was able to put down a little more power in some of the efforts, and recover a touch more after each effort. I do think I will try it in ERG mode next time. I think I need to retest as well, but not sure when I will squeeze that in just yet.
Just got the badge - with not a lot of time to spare.
Life got in the way during the month.
And just when the couchlandrian in me said: āWho cares, itās just a badge?ā I spat out my donut and suffered gloriously!
So whatās in store for July? Giro Donna themed sessions? Iāve heard thereās a menās race starting in Spain too, anyone investigated that?
Oh, snap! I had planned to do Fight Club during my KOS, but had to miss it because my back has been acting up. I guess Iāll be doing it either tomorrow or Friday at very low intensity (as much as I can stand). Gotta have those badges! lol
I remember last year they had a āThe Great French Challengeā badge and looking back at my notes for the Tour de Home I devised, that was 9 videos in the course of the month. Iām curious to see if they do the same. Some would consider not doing a TdF focused challenge in July sacrilege, but I would love to see something built on the Giro Donne and/or the TdF Femme for a change. Not long till we find out, Iām sure!
Iāll be watching ![]()
#TWAAW
Congrats to everyone who earned their June badge already - there is still time to complete!!
July challenge announcement coming tomorrowā¦
BTW, what does that mean? I missed the memoā¦
apparently, and Iām sure the wahoominati wants The Company to know this, #twaaw means the wahoominati are always watching.
Loosely translated, this means that Sufferlandrians the world over, are keeping their eyes on what The Company does in support of and in promotion of the greatest mythical nation in the whole wide world. Hence their explicit support for the June Challenge. As well as the ārecommended Sufferfestā that has been showing on the SYSTM Home Page.

Thanks @jmckenzieKOS for asking, and @Glen.Coutts for filling us in. Iāve seen this many times but never asked. Thought it was like a lot of the workout titles that get thrown around in abbreviation. Iām nearly always lost on those too.
Awesome. WE are watching, and i like some of the changes, but not others. We certainly do not need a watering down of the harshness that the Sufferfest brought in. Itās more than the rides though. Thatās part of the equation. We need to keep Fluffy and the Laser Goats.
